This is a Eagle Claw"Trailmaster" fly rod/ spinning rod combination. Put out by the Wright Mcgill CO. Denver Colorado. This is a six piece rod, when all together it measures 6' 9" 206cm) The rod looks like it was used very little, it has a couple tiny nicks on the metal of the base portion of the rod, the handle. There is a soft cloth pouch with a partition for the different pieces. And a nice aluminum case with a water tight screw on cap. The aluminum case measures 15" end to end and is 2 3/4" in diameter. This is a nice set and as the name implies it would be great for packing in, it can be attached to a back pack or with a thong around your shoulder, the thong, or string is missing, but easily replaced. Vintage 5 Piece Bamboo Spin/fly Combo rod in Wooden box/Japan/Valiant/Clean!
A neat old 5 piece bamboo fishing rod. Made in Japan, for the collector or fishing enthusiast. Brand on the rod is Valiant. Nice label with mount Fuji I believe. 8 ft. rod when put together. Fly rod has two tips and a third tip for spin fishing. Box is dirty and the Valiant label is mostly gone. Hinges need to be nailed back on the back side. The clasp on the front side still in place and keep it closed. Top or lid of the box doubles as a tackle and fly box. The original bobber, hand line, and three flies are still in place. The bobber is sealed and marked Valiant also. One winding is coming undone near the cork. All other thread windings look good and solid. All the tips are present and correct. Rod shows minor signs of wear. There is one winding(top end of the 3rd piece) that may have come partially undone and then laquer or some other coating applied. This is shown in the 6th photo. Vintage 1950's HEDDON PAL No.175"Black Beauty" 7 FT. 2-PIECE TUBULAR FIBERGLASS SPINNING ROD WITH THE ORIGINA LABELED ALUMINUM TUBE and period correct rod sock. Heddon's"Black Beauty" Pal series of tubular glass fly and spinning rods were extremely popular, selling $30.00+ in the 1950's. With black mountings, contrasting black ferrules& reel seat and with signature black and orange windings, it is very nice rod. This is one of the nicest example I've ever handled. First introduced by James Heddon's Sons in 1953 as the"Black Beauty" The No.175 version would appear the following year and sell through the 1958 season. Because this example has the dark brown"grained" fiberglass rod blank and the"L" stands for"Light" action. Comes equipped with rich"tiger-striped" ... moreglass blanks, black guides, tip top& hook keeper, black welted& serrated ferrules, elongated solid cork grip, adjustable sliding reel seat of anodized black w/black rings, Heddon's signature red butt cap and wound in black silk tipped in orange. I've added a photo of the Heddon advertisement from the era. from Heddon's 1954 catalog. Rod is in fine lightly used condition and, again, is one of the nicest I've come across. All components are excellent. Put up in a period correct brown cloth bag. No holes or tears whatsoever. All this goes into the original Heddon aluminum tube, which shows a couple minor dings on the threaded cap and surface wear. Still carries about a 90-95% complete Heddon foil label. The screw-on cap, stamped"HEDDON" attaches solidly and securely. An especially nice, early glass spinning package from Heddon, all original and complete. Vintage FENWICK Model SF75-5 5-piece Travel Combo Spin/Fly Rod
Up for auction here is a vintage Fenwick Voyageur combination spinning and fly travel rod in five pieces(model SF75-5) Complete with a cloth rod sleeve and a sturdy aluminum storage tube with a screw top. The rod is 7 ½ feet long, weighs 4 1/8 ounces and is designed for a#6 fly line or spin lures from 1/8 to 2/8 ounces on a mono line testing from 3 to 6 pounds. It has Fenwick’s“Feralite” ferrules, which to my knowledge were the first non-metal rod ferrules. The rod has a sliding reel seat for proper positioning of a spin or fly reel. The eye wraps are original. The overall condition of the rod is very good; there is some minor damage on the cork handle(see picture) The serial number on the rod is J124156. The green cloth rod sleeve has four sections. The case is about 23 ½ inches long; each rod section is about 19 ½ inches ... morelong. The rod will ship as a 2-pound package. Vintage Eagle Claw 6’9” trail master Spin/Fly Combo. 5 piece rod and original case that can be configured for spin casting or fly fishing. This rod is like new and clearly had very little use if any and has been carefully stored for many years. The eye wraps. Eyes, cork, finish and rod it’s self are all perfect. I have had many auctions as I clear out my parent’s estate and my only goal is to sell. I work to sell under the price of all the others. Because I have a lot to sell. A very clean 7 1/2 foot fiberglass Trailmaster combo travel rod in excellent condition. This model was offered in the late 1980's. The rod is rated for 2-10 pound spinning line and 1/8 to 1/2 ounce lure weight. For fly fishing it is rated as a 7 weight. Disassembled. The rod sections measure 24 inches so it can be easily packed in your travel luggage. The original fabric cover is included. A nice travel rod for fresh or light saltwater fishing.
