Here is a very old square steel fishing rod with a long wooden handle. The varnish finish is worn off the wood and there are cheques in the wood as shown. The rod guides are all there and well attached. The spring load to hold the reel in place works like it should. TRUE TEMPER and Pat. numbers are engraved in the steel. The other wording is as shown. The rod without the handle measures apprx 52-1/2" The original carrying case has seen alot of wear but it is there and this rod was stored in it inside the aluminum container in the estate we purchased. The rod is in excellent shape! The handle and bakelite shows very little wear for its age. No breaks or cracks!

Up for your consideration is this Antique Temper True Fishing Rod Speedlock Raider all metal This Rod obviously had some"doctoring" as there is electrical tape wrapped around handle. And there is an apparent crack in the upper shaft. PLEASE LOOK AT PICTURES CAREFULLY! Some History on the"Speedlock" Rod Design: Thee patent number was. Which by reading turned out that the patent was issued December 14th, 1937 and since the company changed their name in 1949 to True Temper. We can safely bet that the rod was probably made somewhere between 1937– 1949. Since American Fork and Hoe probably didn’t produce Fishing Rods during WWII, we can lower the end date to 1937– 1942(The year they were producing bayonets) The inventor was John Kari Kinnear of Geneva, Ohio. Vintage "True Temper Perfect" Square Rod with "Speedlock Handle"
A vintage'True Temper Perfect' square tempered steel fishing rod made by the American Fork and Hoe Co. Rod has two patent numbers on it. One is#80990 granted in April of 1930 and the other is#1755159 granted in April of 1930. The guides were wrapped on with fine copper wire which was then tinned over. The length is 46-3/4" which includes 1-3/4 base that attaches to the handle. The rod was an instant success starting a new trend in fishing rods. The rod is in excellent condition. Also offered for sale is the infamous Speedlock rod handle Pat. No. 2102237. On the inside of the reel seat engraved is"A True Temper product Genova Ohio. The handle is enhanced with marbled bone colored bakelite. The rod and handles are in the original well-worn tan canvas True Temper bag with a metal case inside to protect the rod.
