Purchased in the 1960's from a traditional and very rustic Paradise Valley. Montana fly fishing pro shop, this genuine Hardy Bros. Alnwick) hexagon bamboo still looks to be in near mint condition- It was purchased as used. Fished about 6x, but looks pristine with no obvious wear, which is the condition I kept it in for the last 40+ years. The rod is a 2-piece with one matching tip. The cork grip is VERY clean and shows no marks or wear. The ferrules are squeaky clean. Smooth and tight fitting, while the guides(including the brass butt guide and chrome snake intermediates) are all original with no signs of wear at all. Windings and varnish are pristine and show no wear; Comes with the original blue sock and aluminum rod tube. In excellent to mint condition. The sections are straight as an arrow, although the tip piece appears to be about ½” shorter than the butt section. One thing I can truly attest to is that this rod lays out an awesome amount of line and has the backbone to take on even the nastiest of sea run brown trout! I’ve walked this rod into a fly fishing pro shop– They examined the piece and looked it up in their“bible” estimating that with a single tip it is valued@ $700.00. Should you have any questions. Vintage Whole cane & Built Cane unusual Rod "Pisces" Brand for Refurb.
An unusual and pretty little 10ft 6 inch 3 piece rod. Has a good logo"PISCES" intact, but nothing else. Has a nice white inner Butt and Tip ring, but needs Intermediates replaced before fishing again. A previous owner has written 10-6 on the butt section in biro? should come off okay. This 3 piece rod has butt and middle section in whole cane, and a tip of built cane. I can find no information on Pisces rods, except for a Canadian builder who is still producing rods. I would expect more on the butt if this was that company. This is a nice little rod that looks well worth a refurbishment, that should not take too long either. Rubber butt cap must be wrong, probably had a button when new. Here is a project that will not break the bank, and could produce a sweet fishing rod. Take a look at my other items too.

Vintage B JAMES Split Cane Fly Fishing Rod Early"Built to Endure" Diamond Logo Ref: DU I am offering for auction a rare vintage two section B JAMES& SON London"Swift" Fly Rod. Which comes in a period cloth bag. The rod carries the"Built To Endure" Feather/Diamond Logo. Which makes this quite an early example. When assembled the rod measures 8ft 8ins overall. With both sections being almost identical lengths. Although quite dusty. All guides look to be original and in excellent condition, with no damage or major corrosion. The stripper and tip guides are agate lined, which no chips or cracks to the linings. As far as I can tell all guide and intermediate whippings appear to be original. Whilst some are little dry and may benefit from some attention. Overall they are in sound condition, with just one or two ... morelose threads, particularly to one intermediate, which is incomplete. The varnish is generally in very good condition. But as is to be expected, there are a few age-related blemishes to the finish. The cork handle is in very good condition. With just an age-related patina and one or two superficial nicks and blemishes; the alloy reel seat is in good condition, with just typical surface scratches, picked up from the reel foot. It has a nickel/bronzed suction joint. The male and female ferrules are both in good condition. With little evidence of wear. The sections join and separate nicely with minimal effort. There is no ferrule plug with this rod. Whilst B JAMES& SON was a very well known coarse rod maker. I know very little of the history of this particular example, so if anyone can offer additional information, in particular it's age and design casting weight, I would be delighted to hear from them. The rod remains very straight with no set or memory that I can detect and the tip section can be flexed without losing shape. Please note that the butt section. Vintage Split Cane Carp Rod. Walker Kit Rod. Hand Built.
This is a two piece. 10' Split Cane Carp Rod in the style of a Walker Mk 1V. These kits were actually supplied by B.James& Sons, some applied the transfer, others did not bother. The cane and handle are in excellent condition and the ferrule fits well but there is that crack to the female part of the joint. It looks as though it may have been closed in a door jam for it to have split in this manner. The buyer should therefore be aware that these may need replacing before use. Here is a newly built 2pc fly rod. This was built using vintage cane from a US made fly rod. New cork grip. Reel seat, snake guides and ferrules. This rod may have some of its original character, some twist, set or guide foot staining(variations present depending on the individual rod)but make no mistake, it's ready to fish your favorite water. This will make a great small stream rod. The rod weighs about 3 oz and should cast a 8 wt line. This rod is just under 6 ft long(70" assembled. Rare Paul Hightower Bamboo fly rod Built on Granger Blanks Flyrod Cane
Where else will you find an 8 foot 4/5 line cane rod for this price? Paul Hightower worked for Bill Phillipson of Phillipson Rods in Denver. As I recall I bought this rod from Bob's Tackle Shop in Denver back before moving to Montana. This is basically the same as a Granger or Wright McGill 8 foot 5 weight(although I like these rods with a 4/5 Wulff Triangle tip) This one is a darned nice 8 foot 3/2 rod that's not had any repairs; full length; straight. Comes with the case Bob's provided and a newly replaced REC cotton bag. I haven't fished this much over the 20 years or so I've owned it(although. As witnessed in the picture, it performed well on a spring creek on the South Island of New Zealand)I left the patina on the reel seat.you can choose to polish it. I know Hightower made some of his rods from Phillipson blanks ... moretoo, due to the tell-tale glue lines, but these are Granger or Wright-McGill blanks and ferrules. A great little rod, with deep caramel color, matching translucent wraps tipped red. Reel not included.just showing that the reel seat works. Hand Built Split Cane Fly Rod: Purchased from H.Hatton Fishing Tackle. The makers, Hereford, England. 7 foot AFTM#4-5 Weight Line. No Reserve. V.Good condition. The Rod was used only half a dozen times in the River Barle in Devon& caught some Brown Trout. It is suitable for delicate light lines. But it feels fairly light in the hand. Soft through action is great for beginners or experienced traditional fisherman at close to medium distances. Fish feel is the best. And is shock absorbing of leaders and for keeping hooks home. It will also bend to the butt to play a big fish. The only Split cane rods still made are all over GB £1000 to my knowledge. Split cane was considered the premium natural material available and required the highest skill levels to make. Hand Made in the UK in mid 1970's. The Avondale 10 1/2ft hollow build cane match rod by Jas. Aspindale and Sons. Redditch, England. This rod has been completely stripped and re-whipped by myself. Using the original agate lined butt and tip guides and'keeper' ring, with new high bell intermediate guides, using a black and white twist thread(as was the original) and completely re-varnished. The cork on the(19in) handle is in very good condition. The ferrules are sound without any'knock' or play. The rod is straight. With no'set' or droop. It comes complete with an Original Maker's Bag.
