6 Vintage Heddon Pal Casting Rods 2 1-pc & 4 2-pc Mark IV & V & Stainless Wire
This offering is for a lot of 6 vintage Heddon casting rods. Two of which are 1-pc rods and 4 are 2-pc rods. From the bottom in the first picture we have(1) Heddon Pal 1-pc Mark IV#6305, 5 1/2' that is in great shape except that the eyelet just down from the tip is missing; 2) Heddon Pal 1-pc Mark IV#6305, 5 1/2' that doesn't have anything really wrong but it is dirty and shows some wear; 3) Heddon Pal 2-pc Mark IV#6905, 6' that is in real nice shape but the foil covering the butt tip is wrinkled but maybe that is to come off; 4) Heddon Stainless Wire Pal 2-pc#6743, 6' that shows use but is in good used condition; 5) Heddon Pal 2-pc Mark V#6919, 6 1/2' that shows it's use but is complete and I would guess very fishable; 6) Heddon Pal 2-pc Mark IV#6906, 6 1/2' that is closer to 6' so the tip has been replaced ... moreand the tip section has been repaired above the base eyelet on the tip section. The butt section looks good if anyone has a good tip section. Someone who has some rod building capability could make a lot of use of this lot. Additional pics are available so just email if needed. Cork, and metal handle are intact and sturdy. Handle has teak wood inserts. Cons: Has use and wear: scratches and discoloration. The first eye closest to the handle has been bent. The weld broke on the left of second eye. Closest to the handle, and repaired with gorilla glue. Dings. Scratches, and nicks on metal handle end. Please observe photographs below. Starting with the handle/base section. The handle is in good condition but does have finish loss on the aluminum section as pictured the cork and wood are in great shape as well as the reel clamp down screw assembly. The second or tip section is 4" short and the rod measures 6'2" assembled instead of 6'6" The action of the rod to my hand still feels good with nice flex. It seems that the first line guide has been rewrapped with a non original line guide. This HEDDON PAL#8457 Mark IV fiberglass fly rod is a two piece. 8'6" rod rated for 6 or 7 wt. line(casts better with a 6) and is the prettiest rod with higher quality fittings than any other rod from the fiberglass era: spring-loaded hand machined reel seat, hardwood inserts in the grip, Featherweight(TM) ferrule, fancy wraps done with silk thread, and the entire rod is finish-coated with spar varnish. This one doesn't quite qualify to be rated Mint, because it has two mark-downs: first, the tiptop wrap has been damaged(but, since it's well-varnished, it won't get worse unless you pick at it) secondly, a previous owner etched his name on the tube-both of these things can be seen in the photos. Please study the photos, and let them be your guide to how it looks: what you see is what you get. Vintage Heddon Pal Mark IV #8459 9' 8/9wt 2pc Fas-Tip Action Fly Rod, Tube, Sock
I just inventoried my fiberglass rod collection and discovered I have 2 8459s. The Mark IV is one of my favorite fiberglass rods from the late 1950's and 1960's. I have owned this Mark IV Fly Rod#8459 9" GBG GAF 8/9wt rod for for a couple of years. And it has been displayed in my heated office/fishing gear workshop the whole time. The rod is all original, the spring loaded aluminum reel seat is in great condition and indicates this is a late 1950's/early 1960's model. The original decal from the hardware store where it was originally purchased in Wylam, AL, outside of Birmingham, is still on the butt end of the rod, above the Heddon Pal script, and hook keeper. A picture is provided. A page from the 1959 Heddon Finer Fishing Catalog is shown in the last picture, and this rod is the top of their line. The walnut and faux ... moreivory inlay and cork grip are also in excellent condition. All guides, hook keeper,and ferrules are intact, as are the windings from tip to bottom of rod. The ferrels join together and come apart nicely, and the rubber o-ring is like new. This is clearly a vintage rod that has been carefully fished and cared for. The correct Heddon tube is include, and is in very good condition, but missing the top cap. The rod sack is original and in great condition as well. Honestly, I am only selling this because I don't need 2 Mark IV 8/9 wt rods at this time. I'd rather have someone else enjoy this one, as I have over the years. Here is some nice detailed information on the Heddon flyrods from the late 1950's and 1960's. Some of which was borrowed from a similar listing 8wt listed that sold for over $100 earlier in the year. In the late 1950's this rod was listed at $40.00 in the Heddon catalogs of that era. The Heddon Pal Mark Series fiberglass rods were introduced in 1959 and the Mark IV's were sold new in sporting goods stores during the late 1950s and 1960s. No tears or cracks in the bag itself, but the vinyl trim has some cracked/worn areas where the flap bends to close and open. Some of the worn stitching has been repaired. I'm selling one of my favorite fiberglass rods from the 1960's. Over the past year of so. I've collected a number of the coveted 7 1/2' 5wt Heddons, and they really are a joy to cast. Basically I decided I did not need 4 of them, and am trimming down the collection. I have owned this Mark IV Fly Rod#8453 7 1/2' 2pc wt fiberglass flyrod was the lightest of the top of the Heddon Mark IV line. The rod is all original, the aluminum reel seat shows normal use and boat rash and the rubber butt is in very good condition. The walnut and faux ivory inlay and cork grip are also in excellent condition. All guides, hook keeper,and ferrules are intact and in good condition, as are the windings from tip to bottom of rod. This is clearly a mid-1960's vintage rod that has been fished and enjoyed. There is no rod sock and the Heddon ... morecardboard tube and cap are period correct. The rod tube shows wear on the bottom, likely from use and shipping, but is fully intact and not physically damaged. Here is some nice detailed information on the Heddon flyrods from the 1960's. Some of which was borrowed from a similar Mark IV 8wt listed at $125 in late 2013. The Heddon Pal Mark Series fiberglass rods were introduced in 1962 and the Mark IV's were sold new in sporting goods stores during the 1960's and'70s. And are over fifty(50) years old this year and are still in great demand by collectors all over the world. They were offered in Mark I, Mark II, Mark III and the Mark IV models. All of these rods were made in Casting, Spinning and Fly Rod configurations. The Mark IV's were considered the"Top of the Line" and were easily recognized by the distinctive American Walnut& Simulated Ivory Insets in their handles. Power Plus Action with B-GBG or GAF rating(7/8/9wt) with Heddon's trademark spring loaded aluminum reel seat and walnut handle inlays. Rod is in very good condition. All guides, windings, and hook keeper are intact, and the ferrules pop when taken apart. Reel seat has some scratches that can be seen in the pictures. Vintage Heddon Pal #8457 Mark IV 8 1/2' 2 pc Fas Tip Act C-HCH GBF (7wt) Fly Rod
I'm selling another one of my favorite fiberglass rods from the 1960's. Over the past year of so. I've collected a number of the coveted 8 1/2' 7wt Heddons, and they really are a joy to cast. Basically I decided I did not need 3 of them, and am trimming down the collection. I have owned this Mark IV Fly Rod#8457 8 1/2' 2pc 7wt fiberglass flyrod and it is in excellent condition. This rod was was the top of the Heddon Mark IV line. The rod is all original, the aluminum reel seat shows little use and thespring loaded reel seat is in excellent condition. The walnut and faux ivory inlay and cork grip are also in excellent condition. All guides, hook keeper,and ferrules are intact and in good condition, as are the windings from tip to bottom of rod. This is clearly a late 1950's or early 1960's vintage rod as evidenced ... moreby the brown/orange fiberglass blank, and the spring loaded reel seat, which I personally think is very cool. I expect that this rod may have been fished and enjoyed. There is a correct Heddon brown with gold piping rod sock and the Heddon aluminum tube and with Heddon bottom cap that are period correct. The rod tube shows some wear, likely from use and shipping, but is fully intact and not physically damaged. Here is some nice detailed information on the Heddon flyrods from the 1960's. Some of which was borrowed from a similar Mark IV 8wt listed at $125 in late 2013. The Heddon Pal Mark Series fiberglass rods were introduced in 1962 and the Mark IV's were sold new in sporting goods stores during the 1960's and'70s. And are over fifty(50) years old this year and are still in great demand by collectors all over the world. They were offered in Mark I, Mark II, Mark III and the Mark IV models. All of these rods were made in Casting, Spinning and Fly Rod configurations. Vintage Heddon Pal 6906 Mark IV 6 1/2' Two Piece Fast Tip Action Rod W/Sock
Up for bid is a Vintage Heddon Pal#6906 Mark lV 6 1/2' Fast Tip Action Rod that is O Ringed and comes with Rod Sock. The rod does have some rubs and a scratches from use but overall in good condition. The only thing I can see is the first eye on the tip is bent a little. All the eyes wrappings are nice and tight the label is 99% there. Make a great addition to your Vintage Heddon Rod Collection or to fish with.
