Antique 7'6" Bamboo/Cane Surf rod - One piece w/Pflueger griptite band
This is an antique surf rod. It is one piece. Made from bamboo/cane and is 7'6" long. It has a sliding reel seat plus a Pfueger Griptite band. There are three guide plus tip. All wrappings have recent fiberglas coating. Theblank has been varnished or lacquered a number of times and has preserved this rod nicely. It is multi-shaded from all this but the rod is sound. We will ship this rod via FedEx ground, insured. We have had bad experiences using the USPS for fishing rods.

THE HANDLE IS FACTORY WRAPPED WITH A CORD FOR ABOUT 30 INCHES. THEN THERE IS ABOUT 4 INCHES OF IT LOOKS LIKE ELECTRICAL TAPE. I DID NOT REMOVE IT SINCE IT LOOKS LIKE IT GOES UNDER THE CORD WRAPPING. This early split bamboo surf rod is in excellent condition. The bamboo is tight and straight and the handle and rod have the original finish. It appears to have had little or no use. The guides are perfect as pictured and the wraps are tight and perfect. The turned wood handle is oak or hickory and retains the original finish. It comes with the original canvas sock which is pretty worn and tired. The chrome rod seat at the top of the handle section is not original. The top section is 91 inches and the handle is 31 inches. Stamped into the nickel-silver ferrule at the base of the top section of this rod is"1123-B-6 1/2 Shakespeare Made in USA" Shakespeare started making bamboo rods around 1920 and this very early example from an estate in the San Francisco Bay area is outstanding. This rod dates from 1931 and was known as Lyons Special Surf Casting Rod. The bamboo is tight and straight and the handle and rod have the original finish. It appears to have had little or no use. The guides are perfect as pictured and the wraps are tight and perfect. The turned wood handle is oak or hickory and retains the original finish. The rod has a black finish and I believe is made of bamboo. The handle is wood. The rod measures approximately 74 inches long when assembled. The wrappings and eyes look good but do show some use wear. As I stated I believe the rod is made of bamboo.it is six sided and there is an area where a small amount of black finish has been rubbed off that appears to show wood underneath. There is a blue rubber tip at the end of the handle but it is deteriorating from age. This rod would made a great addition to a collection of vintage bamboo rods. Bamboo Spinning Rod. 12.5' Surf Casting Length.
Unusual bamboo spinning rod of unknown origin. 12.5' overall so probably an early surf casting rod. Tip section is darker and possibly impregnated for strength and longevity. Ferrules fit and have no cracks. All wraps are tight. Cork is good. Nice solid reel seat. All 15 guides are good. All three sections are straight. Only minus can find is a couple of barely visible hairline separations at the very stout base of section 2. Which have been finished over and seem to have no effect. If they ever grow, a few intermediary wraps might be in order. Awhile back I mounted a spinning reel and tried some retro casting from the beach.the rod works fine and casts about as far as any other surf rod.

Looks like it can be used today! Chrome guides and seat in great shape. It has the Mayflower decal intact. The black wooden handle is in nice shape as well. It is a 2 pc. rod and it goes together and comes apart easily. The thread whipping that holds the guides on is all solid with no thread loss or unwinding. The guides are all tight. A beautiful rod for the vintage collector to use or display.

Green and red is present, tight and bright. Metal work is bright with some micro scratching. The blue rubber butt is present, complete without damage. The upper portion of the pole is 35 ¾ inches making the pole 6 feet 1 ¾ inches when joined. There are three eyes. The tip is present and tight. All green whipping is present and tight. Vintage Montague Fishkill Bamboo Surf Rod 2 piece
Great Find. You are bidding on a 9 foot 9 inch bamboo surf rod. It has the Montague Fishkill logo on the bamboo rod part. Take notice of the photos I took, It has a double eye towards the top of the rod, and the bamboo rod has an octagon shape. The eyes are all intact with one at the tip and a double eye below the tip. The bottom of the pole shaft is in nice shape as well as the handle too. The shipping charges I will try my best on but I will carefully pack this and make sure it arrives in the same condition I have. This pole would make a great collectors piece or take some history out on the surf and use it for fishing. I've broken many poles on the surf but this one would probably reel in a big keeper. ORVIS Bamboo Surf Spin Rod. Serial# 16288. Built 9/8/1954. 15 3/4 oz. 31/64 ferrule size. Butt section is 57" tip 61" The total cork length with reel seat is 33 1/2" and 4" fore grip. I think this rod is rare or at least very unusual. The other surf rods listed in the catalogues are all one piece tip. This rod is the heaviest Orvis rod I have seen other than the long two-hand salmon rods. The ferrule is almost 1/2" I do not think the rod was ever used or at least never saw the water. The cloth bag is almost new condition and original to the rod. There is no aluminum tube.
