This auction is for a used vintage bamboo flyrod. A case/holder is included. The rod measures 8' and has three sections with an additional tip section. This one is for restoration only. The reel holder section and one tip section show gradual deflections. There are numerous guides that are missing and loose wrappings. Also note that the case does not fit the handle properly(see photo) I thought I would be able to identify the builder because of the unique handle/reel mount assembly and still cannot determine who the builder is There are no builder markings. This sale is for one 40" long blue vintage unmarked cardboard rod tube with screw cap. The tube is intact and strong. Has minor peeling of surface colored paper, no holes or bends. There are 2 tiny really insignificant dents near ends and cap has minor corrosion. Inside are four rod tips from various rods. Unknown makers. May be useful for parts. 2 Pole Tips are missing their tip guides and may have broken guides but also have good guides. 2 Pole Tips are intact with good eyes with guide sleeves of white material. May be glass. Yellow tip is 40" long and green tip is 30" long. Green one also has a black metal connector cap. 5 sleeved guides and 2 sleeved tips are on thes good rod tips. Vintage South Bend Bamboo Fly fishing rod. Model#359-9' Comes in four sections. With two rod tips. This rod has been well used, and is in need of some repair/restoration. Line guide on the main section by the tip is missing and the guide wrapping there is frayed. Next section has a loose guide and the next guide is not on at all. I do have the missing guide eyelet for this section. The two tips have all the guides and appear to be intact. I do not see any obvious cracks or breaks in any of the sections, the repairs needed are more cosmetic/functional. The cloth case appears to be in fairly good condition with slots for all four sections. If you are a collector you would know better how to judge the condition of this fly rod and if it can be restored or repaired to add to your collection or used for trading fodder. It is in need of repair, and is missing at least one ferrule. My photos show the exact item that you are getting. ~ The"DE" stamped log is DIAMOND EDGE. A name registered by Shapleigh St. Louis in 1909, and used until the mid-1930s. ~ HINDUVINE is the marketing name for Calcutta Bamboo. ~ The handle section measures about 38" long, and is MISSING one wire EYE and the metal ferrule that connects to the center section. the cork has a couple of gouges) ~ The 38" long center section has four eyes, with green thread wrap, and is complete with both ferrules. 3 Piece Sunlight Vintage Bamboo Fly Fishing Rod, 7' 7", Needs Repair
You are bidding on a vintage bamboo fly rod that is 7' 7" long. It comes in 3 sections and was a Sunlight rod. This rod is in need of a total makeover. You will need to put on new snake guides and all. The cork will also need to be replaced. I was going to learn how to repair my own rods but the guy who was going to teach me is no longer available. Vintage Montague 'Flash' 3/2 Bamboo Fly Rod for Repair / Restoration
Welcome To My Auction The item up for bid is one(1) vintage Montague'Flash' 3/2 bamboo fly rod. The bamboo. Varnish and wraps are all in remarkably good condition on this rod. The decal is 95%+. There are no divots in the cork. The two sections that I could get a measurement on measure 36 1/2" for the first section and 36 1/4" for the tip. Now for the demerits: as the photos show corrosion is not a friend to ferrules. First the base section, the reel seat has spots of corrosion here and there that seem to be more or less superficial; the female ferrule is completely corroded through and needs replaced, what remains of the very tip of the ferrule is cemented to the inside of the rod sock(large spot by thumb in final picture) First section: the male ferrule in this section has spot corrosion and a crack, the female has heavy ... morebuild up but seems to be crack free. Tip sections: As pictured on one of the sections the tip top guide ring is gone and the other end of that piece has medium corrosion, on the other tip section both ends are in tact but the male has quite a build up and the tip top has some. I have been told it dates from about the 1930s/40s, but not sure, the rod is a 3 piece the rod does need a new ring fitting, it is stamped on the brass base Milward, made in England, it also has a retailers mark of Hansons fishing tackle specialists, overall the rod is in good condition, it will need some cosmetic help and a good clean.
