This vintage fly rod is in VG- Excellent Condition. Looks as though it was not used more that a couple of times! This is a three(3) piece rod with two(2) tip pieces! This rod measures 8 1/2 feet long when assembled. I do not see any brand or name anywhere on this rod. So I am asking for help from the Ebay commuity to identify this nice vintage piece. HEDDON Split Bamboo Fly Rod 8' No. 20 3/2 w/ Original Bag& Tube Nice Heddon Split Bamboo Fly Rod. The tag on bag is marked"No. 20. Fer. 1¾, Lgt. 8' Weight 4 oz. This is a 3/2 rod with two tips, the Original Bag& Red Aluminum Storage Tube. There is no writing or markings on the shaft above the cork handle. The Brass reel lock nut is marked"Patent 1807078" The two lower sections are mostly straight, but not perfectly straight. The heavy tip has a slight set and the light tip has a more pronounced set. All ferrules and wraps look sound& tight and the finish on all sections is glossy& smooth. The cork handle shows some patina from use, but has no serious chips or chunks missing. The only other notable defect is the plastic reel holder section does not fit tightly in the cork handle. It moves a bit and ... moremay need to be repaired for a tighter fit. The cloth bag is coming apart somewhat at one end and is held together with masking tape. The aluminum tube has many small dents& scratches. But is straight and the end cap screws on tightly. Note that our camera's lens sometimes makes long objects look bent- most of the bends/curves seen in the photo's of the rod are due to that and are NOT the slight bends/set in the various rod sections mentioned in the description. Heddon 9 ft split bamboo fly rod made in Michigan pre 1952. Excellent condition and all guides are intact. Also has extra tip. Original cloth cover is included. Fly rod was my grandfathers and has caught a lot of fish. Many many good fishing years still available with this rod. On Feb-16-13 at 21:17:47 PST. Seller added the following information: Edit: Several folks have asked about any writing above the cork handle. There are none. Either Heddon didn't write anything there or my grandfather wore it off from use. If Heddon didn't write anything there. Then it must have been from earliest days when they may not have. The cloth tag is fairly old as well. The wt and length are clearly seen, but it's hard to read the rest. I'll try to get a decent photo of the tag& post it Sunday. The brass ring that holds the reel has a patent ... morenumber stamped on it so I will get that as well, but it too is hard to read. That is all. On Feb-17-13 at 13:15:02 PST. Seller added the following information: Edit: More pics added today and the patent number on the rod is 1524052. Though the cloth tag is hard to read. After three people inspected it we came to the conclusion it looks like a model 10. Also on the bottom of the tag, the letter S appears as if it was inspected by someone who's name started with the letter S. My father told me that his father had bought the rod new prior to him graduating from H.S. in 1952.

Up for auction is this Heddon Thorobred#14 9' 2½ F Vintage Split Bamboo Fly Rod. It is an original Heddon Bamboo fly rod. No.14 with the Coral colored Tenite seat. It is the"Thorobred" slow action trout fly rod. This vintage split bamboo fly rod comes with the extra tip(4 bamboo rod parts in all) The rod has the original guides and wraps. The varnish finish is a little"bubbles" in a few places but there are no cracks or breaks. The two tip section have slight bends as can be seen in photos number 1 and 2. The cork at the end has the outer finish rubbed off as can be seen in photo number 3. It also has another word written on the rof that appears to be Washo?d but I can't read it all. It has the original cloth storage bag that is not torn or ripped but does have soil at both ends. ITEM: A vintage Three Piece Winchester Bamboo Fishing Rod. It is marked on the back of the handle: Winchester Trade Mark Made in U.S.A. 6042" and the moveable ring for the reel seat is marked: Pat. Feb 1. 1921" Its overall length is 8' 11" SIZE: The sections measure 36 inches. 36 1/2 inches and the tip measures 35 1/2 inches in length. CONDTION: It was purchased exactly as pictured at an estate sale in this aluminum case marked Heddon's Dowagiac on its twist on cap. It is in excellent condition with no broken parts or missing eyelets. The ferrules. Eyelets and wrappings all appear to be in excellent condition. The reel seat shows some evidence of wear. VINTAGE HEDDON#14 SPLIT BAMBOO FLY FISHING ROD& TUBE This auction is for a vintage four piece refinished Heddon#14 split bamboo fly rod with original storage clothe and tube. It is 8’10” when assembled. There a partial Heddon inscription and a#14– 9’ 2 1/2f HCH or D inscription. The bottom and mid sections measure 37” one tip is 35 and the second tip section is 34 ¼” I would estimate it would match with a five-six weight fly line. The 6 ¾” cork handle and screw down lock wooden spacer reel seat are in great condition. There are tree snake eye guides on the mid section which have been nicely rewrapped. There are four snake eye guides on each tip section and a stripper guide/hook keeper on the bottom section. The rod fits together perfectly when assembled. There is a very slight natural set in the tip section which will not affect ... morethe casting of the rod. I meticulously stripped the old varnish. Refinished with four coats of spar varnish and completed it with high quality wood rubbing compounds. The ferrules have been buffed and polished. Beautiful Vintage Heddon Split Bamboo Fly Fishing Rod w/cloth and metal cases
I have been helping a friend of a friend sell items from his home of 35 years due to move to a condo. Found in the rafters of the garage were many vintage fishing poles. One very long homemade. One-piece bamboo pole, which I have been told is a great piece for a collector; however, would be very difficult to ship. Another I found is this Heddon Split Bamboo Tempered Rod with it's cloth case and metal tubular case(one end sort of beat up with no cap and other end has the Heddon cap with rubber base(but it does not stay securely in the tube) I have tried to show pictures of the four part pole and cases. I am not the best picture taker. I know little about fishing equipment and poles. But I do buy and sell in antique malls and online and I feel I know quality when I see it. This pole with all it's parts is beautiful. The cork handle ... moreis like new as are all the rods. Beautiful finish with no wear. One of the metal rod ends does look like it has been inserted into another rod, but other than that I would say this rod is in excellent condition. The middle pole looks to be about 1" shorter than the other three poles(may have been repaired?see last picture) Not sure why the metal case is so scruffed up on the one end.probably just from storage, storage, storage! I welcome any comments and/or questions regarding this item. Would really like to know it's age. The gentleman I am selling for is 71 and it was his father's. I am no fly fisherman. But I bought this fly rod and reels quite some time ago at a garage sale thinking I would try to learn how to fly fish. Of course I could never find the time to take up the hobby and after a small amount of looking around I found that this is a classic rod. I think it's better off going to someone who will use it. It looks very old and one of the tips may have possibly been repaired but I am not sure. This includes all the reels that came with the rod. of which only 2 are complete. The third piece is 5" smaller than the other two so the length is actually 91" This third piece also appears repaired with different thread on the first and last line guide and may not be the original but it works ok. The second piece is missing the first line guide which is an easy fix and actually the first two pieces I would consider as very good condition overall. The canvas sock has the original tag with the correct specifications of this rod and is in excellent condition for its age with no damages. the rod weighs 4.7 oz. or in the sock weighs 7.5 oz. Superb 1939-1948 HEDDON#10 Blue Waters 9' Split Bamboo Fly Rod with original cloth bag and metal tube. Heddon's first involvement with rod making was in the manufacture of bait rods back around 1911. The first Heddon Fly Rod was introduced in 1924. It was made in one grade only"the finest" and sold for $35. It was appropriately called the No. 35 for that reason. With the introduction of the fly rods. Heddon began using its famous brown-toned Tempered Cane. Heddon not only made rods for their own catalog. But supplied many other companies with rods to sell under their private label. Among the more common sellers of Heddon- made rods were Shakespeare, Weber, E. K. Tryon(Jay Harvey Rods& Kingfisher Rods) and Lyon& Coulson.

Heddon Premiere #115 9'-2 3/4 F Split bamboo Fly Rod
To be honest I do not know anything about fly rods. This fly rod was my grandfathers fishing pole and was given to me after his passing. I've had it stored for more then 15 years in a climate control gun safe. The bamboo is in excellent shape with no cracking or splintering. The cork handle has some minor wear and tear(casual scarring and dings from use)but is in overall excellent condition. I believe there are a few eyes missing but again im not sure it even came with the eyes in those spots. This listing comes with the fly rod and original tube. Unfortunately I do not have the cloth sheath. Also. You can see that the tube has been dinged up and the label is not perfect, but it is still readable. Thank you and enjoy! Vintage 3/2 Split Bamboo Fly Rod 'Spiros Challenge' Heddon Trade Rod?

This rod has some very interesting features which I will describe but cannot explain. The rod is marked'Spiros Challenge' The Spiros Co. was a retailer out of San Fransico and had rods built for them by Heddon and since the rod appears to have a Heddon reel seat it would follow that this is a Heddon built rod. The rod is also marked 9'3" which is what it measures but consensus has it. Among people that know far more than I about boo rods, that 9'3" is not a size that was made and the 9'3" on the rod was added at some later date by someone other than Heddon. All of the information about the size may be so but does little to explain the section lengths and the placement of the snakes on ... morethe two tip sections. Both tip sections measure 37 5/8" long but as can be seen in photos 2& 3 the placement of the snakes is off anywhere from 3/4" to 2" 4 snakes 4 different placements. The mid section is 37 1/2"and the base is 37 3/8" The boo on all sections has no de-lamination, cracks or splinters. The plastic reel seat is a little bumpy and at first I thought it was somehow melted at some point but after examining it closer it looks as if the plastic used(possibly Tenite) went through some chemical change similar to what Heddon experienced in some of their first plastic lures. The rod comes to you in a wooden carrier as pictured. The rod measures 108 inches long from the butt of the handle to the tip of the rod. The eye wrappings are in excellent condition. The cork handle is in excellent condition. The sleeve looks in excellent condition. As is the complete fly rod. Nice Estate Sale Find. Vintage Heddon Thorobred#14 Split Bamboo Rod. 91/2 feet long. 2 3/4 Fer. The bamboo rod is in great shape, but missing 2 eyes. I tried to show this clearly in the photos. The cork on the handle is in great shape too, but the brass fitting on the bottom is detached. Sock is in poor condition, it has several holes in it. The holding tube is missing the lid and is dented.

HEDDON #14 THOROBRED - 8 1/2 FOOT SPLIT BAMBOO FLY ROD
HEDDON#14 THOROBRED- 8 1/2 FOOT SPLIT BAMBOO FLY ROD Vintage(circa 1952) Lightly Used, Nice Looking! This vintage Heddon rod is marked as a Thorobred model#14 and is 8 1/2 ft long. Other markings include"2f" And"H or H or E" Research indicates the rod to be circa 1952, about the time I remember my Dad purchasing it. In addition the Heddon name is written on a single face of the rod and the Patent Number on the reel seat is#1807078(should be#1870078- a whole story in itself) My Dad enjoyed this rod, though not as often as he would have liked, until his death in 1988 and it has been carefully stored since. The rod is in quite nice condition. It has never been broken and all 4 sections(includes a spare tip) are an equal length of 34 1/2 inches. The finish is smooth with no cracks and shows only very minimal wear. The Cork ... morehandle shows only slight wear with no gouges and no missing chunks. The plastic reel seat is not cracked, threads are intact and there is no corrosion on any of the metal parts. All the eyelets are there but a few of the windings had loose ends and 3 needed rewinding. I had this work done and all the windings re-varnished- everything looks very good now. A fabric storage bag, though not original nor pictured, is included. The rod connections are all clean and straight. With no corrosion and seem to be correctly sized. I have only partially inserted them as a test and they felt just fine. However, I have not fully inserted them and leave that as a test for the new owner. This is a beautiful rod whether adorning your wall or glistening in the sun as you fish your favorite stream. Shipping for all 50 of the U.S. States will be a flat sum of $15. 1951-1952 HEDDON No.8 8-1/2', 3/2, No.2-F "TROUT ACTION" Split Bamboo Fly Rod
It's my pleasure to offer at auction an Extremely Nice 1951-1952 HEDDON No.8"HEDDON FLY ROD" 8-1/2 FT. 3/2"TROUT ACTION" No.2 Ferrule) SPLIT BAMBOO FLY ROD WITH THE ORIGINAL LABELED BAG& ALUMINUM TUBE. Easily, one of the nicer examples of this model that I've handled. Introduced by James Heddon's Sons in 1951, the No.8 would only sell through the 1952 season, when the Korean War Trade Embargo would effectively put an end to virtually all of Heddon's bamboo rod production. The model name was simply called the"Heddon Fly Rod" in catalogs. I've added a photo of the original listing from Heddon's 1952 edition. Heddon's Cleo Hanley has handwritten"Heddon" in straightline on one flat and"8- 8-1/2' 2F- HDH or E" on the opposite flat. The No.2 ferrule would be what ... moreHeddon termed their"Standard Trout" action, a very versatile all-around taper. The"HDH or E" was the old line weight designation equivalent to today's modern 5 or 6 wt. lines. Built with very nice browntone Tonkin cane and comes equipped with extra tip section, Perfection guides& tip tops, serrated& welted nickel silver ferrules, nickel silver winding check, plastic grip check& butt cap, screw-locking mottled brown plastic reel seat, solid cork grip and wound in gold& black variegated silk. Rod is in solid Very Fine all-original condition. Bamboo is perfect, with no splits, cracks or delamination whatsoever. All four sections are the correct equal length, with the tips having just light to moderate sets. Original varnish, rodshaft markings and wraps remain very nice and complete. All guides, tip tops, ferrules, winding check and grip check are excellent. Reel seat works perfectly, with nice hardware. The solid cork grip is superb, showing little evidence of use. Put up in the original cloth bag, which is in excellent condition. Still carries the white"HEDDON- Fighting Heart" inspection label, which is correctly marked for the

8 ft. Heddon #10 Split Bamboo Fly Fishing Rod classic period circa 1935
Here for auction is this excellent condition Heddon split bamboo fly rod marked number 10 standard dry fly rod made for one year(1935) as the maroon with green tip wraps indicate from Sinclare's book. This rod was made before Heddon started its ferrule designation system. This rod fits together tightly and is straight as a arrow and comes in its original bag cloth bag and tube with the tag missing from the bag. I took it out in the deep snow and wind today the temperature was a wooping 4 degrees to try a five weight dry fly line and I have determined that is what it takes. Casting nice tight loops into the freezing wind. The rod weighs 5 oz. and would be considered a high mid grade rod for the period that it was made.
