This vintage fly rod is in VG- Excellent Condition. Looks as though it was not used more that a couple of times! This is a three(3) piece rod with two(2) tip pieces! This rod measures 8 1/2 feet long when assembled. I do not see any brand or name anywhere on this rod. So I am asking for help from the Ebay commuity to identify this nice vintage piece. Up for auction is this Heddon Thorobred#14 9' 2½ F Vintage Split Bamboo Fly Rod. It is an original Heddon Bamboo fly rod. No.14 with the Coral colored Tenite seat. It is the"Thorobred" slow action trout fly rod. This vintage split bamboo fly rod comes with the extra tip(4 bamboo rod parts in all) The rod has the original guides and wraps. The varnish finish is a little"bubbles" in a few places but there are no cracks or breaks. The two tip section have slight bends as can be seen in photos number 1 and 2. The cork at the end has the outer finish rubbed off as can be seen in photo number 3. It also has another word written on the rof that appears to be Washo?d but I can't read it all. Vintage heddon expert#125 split bamboo rod. It is 8-1/2' Rod is used but doesn't look that way. Absolutely beautiful. There are a few imperfections. But really nice for age. The carrying bag is a bit dirty/dingy. The metal protective storage tube shows wear with scratches/ etc. The tube is missing the upper closing cap. VINTAGE SOUTH BEND 7'6" SPLIT BAMBOO SALTWATER ROD, SIMILAR TO HEDDON NO. 44
This no-reserve auction features an ultra rare. Circa 1930s, South Bend 7-1/2 foot split bamboo saltwater rod in excellent overall condition. It's a heavy duty one-piece rod with an extremely rare dowel-style handle, and it has a knurled nickel silver male ferrule on the butt end of the rod section(indeed, a dowel-style handle is even rare on vintage Heddon saltwater rods, with only the heavy duty no. 44"Reef Rod" having one) The South Bend model number, 2V6022, was hand written in black India ink by the maker at the factory, and the South Bend decal is wholly in tact, with only a couple of fish scales appearing over the top of it. The handle section measures 21-3/4" has a metal butt cap affixed, and the wooden portion was made of stained oak. The up-locking heavy duty reel seat has an outside diameter of 1-1/16" and ... moreis chrome plated. The fore grip is also made from stained wood and measures 5-1/4" The one-piece split bamboo rod section has an overall length of 69-1/8" is straight, and the male ferrule on its butt end was made of knurled nickel silver(please see the last picture) Moreover, the ferrule fits very tightly into the handle section. As noted above, the overall length when assembled is 7-1/2 feet. The guides appear to have been made of plated nickel silver, and they are all present and in great shape. The rod is also entirely factory original, including its varnish. The original blood-red silk guide wraps are all there, too, but two of them have become brittle with age and have come undone. They could easily be rewrapped, though. The bamboo of the rod section is in excellent overall condition with no cracks, gouges, or delamination. Simply put, I don't think a finer example of this ultra rare saltwater rod could ever be found, and it is apparent that it didn't see much use. This rod would also make an excellent big-fish freshwater rod-especially for strippers or big cats-and it is definitely cast-able. The winning bidder agrees to pay a flat economy rate of $20.

Rare vintage Heddon Split Bamboo kids child youth fishing pole 34" needs eyelet
Heddon 34" split bamboo fishing pole. I am assuming due to the size this is a kids pole. I have not found another one online anywhere this size. Fishing pole is in good cosmetic condition. Varnish is good for age. One spot just below Heddon badge(see pic) looks like finish had a bubble. This pole has one eyelet completely missing(see pic) This would be a great pole to restore. The soft case is tied at the bottom& is a bit tattered but holds the pole just the same. It has a jeweled eyelet at the end. This pole was originally made with only 2 eyelets, the tip& the middle. Now only has one. The rod appears to be missing a trigger/fingerhold that is part of the top ring for holding the reel on. If there are any other defects then I am not aware of them. VINTAGE HEDDON#14 SPLIT BAMBOO FLY FISHING ROD& TUBE This auction is for a vintage four piece refinished Heddon#14 split bamboo fly rod with original storage clothe and tube. It is 8’10” when assembled. There a partial Heddon inscription and a#14– 9’ 2 1/2f HCH or D inscription. The bottom and mid sections measure 37” one tip is 35 and the second tip section is 34 ¼” I would estimate it would match with a five-six weight fly line. The 6 ¾” cork handle and screw down lock wooden spacer reel seat are in great condition. There are tree snake eye guides on the mid section which have been nicely rewrapped. There are four snake eye guides on each tip section and a stripper guide/hook keeper on the bottom section. The rod fits together perfectly when assembled. There is a very slight natural set in the tip section which will not affect ... morethe casting of the rod. I meticulously stripped the old varnish. Refinished with four coats of spar varnish and completed it with high quality wood rubbing compounds. The ferrules have been buffed and polished. Beautiful Vintage Heddon Split Bamboo Fly Fishing Rod w/cloth and metal cases
I have been helping a friend of a friend sell items from his home of 35 years due to move to a condo. Found in the rafters of the garage were many vintage fishing poles. One very long homemade. One-piece bamboo pole, which I have been told is a great piece for a collector; however, would be very difficult to ship. Another I found is this Heddon Split Bamboo Tempered Rod with it's cloth case and metal tubular case(one end sort of beat up with no cap and other end has the Heddon cap with rubber base(but it does not stay securely in the tube) I have tried to show pictures of the four part pole and cases. I am not the best picture taker. I know little about fishing equipment and poles. But I do buy and sell in antique malls and online and I feel I know quality when I see it. This pole with all it's parts is beautiful. The cork handle ... moreis like new as are all the rods. Beautiful finish with no wear. One of the metal rod ends does look like it has been inserted into another rod, but other than that I would say this rod is in excellent condition. The middle pole looks to be about 1" shorter than the other three poles(may have been repaired?see last picture) Not sure why the metal case is so scruffed up on the one end.probably just from storage, storage, storage! I welcome any comments and/or questions regarding this item. Would really like to know it's age. The gentleman I am selling for is 71 and it was his father's. I am no fly fisherman. But I bought this fly rod and reels quite some time ago at a garage sale thinking I would try to learn how to fly fish. Of course I could never find the time to take up the hobby and after a small amount of looking around I found that this is a classic rod. I think it's better off going to someone who will use it. It looks very old and one of the tips may have possibly been repaired but I am not sure. This includes all the reels that came with the rod. of which only 2 are complete. Vintage 3/2 Split Bamboo Fly Rod 'Spiros Challenge' Heddon Trade Rod?

This rod has some very interesting features which I will describe but cannot explain. The rod is marked'Spiros Challenge' The Spiros Co. was a retailer out of San Fransico and had rods built for them by Heddon and since the rod appears to have a Heddon reel seat it would follow that this is a Heddon built rod. The rod is also marked 9'3" which is what it measures but consensus has it. Among people that know far more than I about boo rods, that 9'3" is not a size that was made and the 9'3" on the rod was added at some later date by someone other than Heddon. All of the information about the size may be so but does little to explain the section lengths and the placement of the snakes on ... morethe two tip sections. Both tip sections measure 37 5/8" long but as can be seen in photos 2& 3 the placement of the snakes is off anywhere from 3/4" to 2" 4 snakes 4 different placements. The mid section is 37 1/2"and the base is 37 3/8" The boo on all sections has no de-lamination, cracks or splinters. The plastic reel seat is a little bumpy and at first I thought it was somehow melted at some point but after examining it closer it looks as if the plastic used(possibly Tenite) went through some chemical change similar to what Heddon experienced in some of their first plastic lures. The rod comes to you in a wooden carrier as pictured. The sleeve looks in excellent condition. As is the complete fly rod. The cork on the handle is in great shape too, but the brass fitting on the bottom is detached. Sock is in poor condition, it has several holes in it. The holding tube is missing the lid and is dented.

Vintage Split Bamboo Rod with agate inserts in eyelets. And a cork handle. Metal is marked"HEDDON'S MADE IN U.S.A. There is a Dowagiac Fish Logo on the rod- see pics. Measures approximately 5'5" when assembled. Cloth case does not have any markings. Metal tube does not have any markings and the lid is missing, but it will keep it safe during mailing. One spot after 3rd eyelet where the thread is rubbed through- see pic. Also, I am not an expert on this category, but it appears to me that it may have been re-shellacked- FYI. This is a Vintage Heddon 2-PC. Split Bamboo casting fishing rod in great condition. Rod sections measure; 29" 27 1/2" tip section has slight bow to it.I am not sure how to do it however have heard several ways this is corrected! Rod handle is very nice cork look great. Rod fit together tightly. Has five eyelets tip eyelet is a different unseen style to me. Wrappings tight. reading thick part of rod reads: Heddon#451-5 1/2' L. Michigan. The circa is 1913-1924. The cardboard carying tube is not by the Heddon company. Also the vintage cloth bag may or may have not been original? It has a cardboard tag attached that says WM. Mills& SON, NEW YORK which may have been the company that made the bag or marketed the casting rod for the Heddon Company? The condition of this restored casting rod is now excellent plus. The condition of both the cloth bag& tube is with moderate in use wear. Fish it or display it in your man cave.
