VINTAGE SOUTH BEND 359-9 FLAMED SPLIT BAMBOO FLY FISHING ROD This auction is for a vintage refinished four piece South Bend 359- 9’split bamboo fly rod with original storage clothe. There is a South bend decal and a 359-9 inscription. The 359 model was considered South Bend’s”dry fly action” rod. All of the sections measure 37” I would estimate it would match nicely with a five weight fly line. The six inch Comficient cork handle is in good functional condition. There is South Bend lite lock reel seat with a cool looking ivory marbleized pyralin spacer. The mid and tip section have three snake eye guides. The stripper guide and wraps on the bottom section have been professionally retied. The wraps near the top of mid section and bottom of the two tips have also been newly wrapped. The rod fits together perfectly when assembled. Has the distinct“pop” ... moresound when removed and all sections are straight. I meticulously stripped the old varnish. Refinished with four coats of spar varnish and completed it with high quality wood rubbing compounds. The ferrules have been buffed and polished. Vintage 1950's SOUTH BEND No. 291 Fishing Rod 7-1/2' 4/1 Split Bamboo MINT CONDITION CIRCA 1950 SOUTH BEND NO.291 7-1/2 FT. 4/1 SPLIT BAMBOO FLY"PACK" ROD WITH THE ORIGINAL LABELED BAG& FIBER TUBE" The No.291 was introduced by the South Bend Bait Company after WWII. As evidenced by the rectangular"SOUTH BEND- A Name Famous In Fishing" rodshaft decal and sold until about 1952. Only available in the 7-1/2' 4/1 configuration, the No.291 was basically a 4-piece version of the No.290 and remains the only"pack" rod I know of produced by South Bend. Rodshaft is also stamped"E or HDH" near the decal and"291- 7-1/2' on an opposite flat. The"E or HDH" is the old line weight designation equivalent to today's modern 5 or 6 wt. lines. Vintage South Bend No 666 Best-O-Luck Fly Fishing Rod Split Bamboo 9' with Case Up for sale we have this beautiful South Bend No. 666"Best-O-Luck" Fly Fishing Outfit. This is a 9' split bamboo Fly Fishing Rod from the 1940s in the original case. After doing some research. I have found out that the original Reel and Cloth bag are not included, as well as some Tackle which was originally affixed to the cardboard insert inside the metal box. The rod itself however, is in excellent condition. It has two different top sections of the rod, one of them will need the top eyelet repaired, as it is loose. I am guessing this was used but it was definitely well taken care of, the finish and other ferrules on the poles are all in excellent condition. I am sure that the reel and bag can be found on eBay, as I have seen some No.666 Reels ... moreavailable for reasonable prices. Vintage South Bend Bait Co. Split Bamboo Fly Fishing Rod#253, 9 Foot Rod This is a 4-piece bamboo fly rod with the rare green bands on the eyes and it's signed by Wilbur C. Bury or this rod was made for him. This split bamboo fly rod is in super shape. It has aged very well. Look over the photos and see for yourself. The guides are all in excellent condition with no fraying on any of the green bands. The identifying decals are 95+% intact, the recommended line weight and rod# lettering look as though they where just applied. This is a 9 foot 3 piece rod with the extra tip. It comes with a soft dark blue plaid flannel carring bag(rod sock) with string ties on both ends and it is in super condition. The tube is not available. VINTAGE SOUTH BEND 7'6" SPLIT BAMBOO SALTWATER ROD, SIMILAR TO HEDDON NO. 44
This no-reserve auction features an ultra rare. Circa 1930s, South Bend 7-1/2 foot split bamboo saltwater rod in excellent overall condition. It's a heavy duty one-piece rod with an extremely rare dowel-style handle, and it has a knurled nickel silver male ferrule on the butt end of the rod section(indeed, a dowel-style handle is even rare on vintage Heddon saltwater rods, with only the heavy duty no. 44"Reef Rod" having one) The South Bend model number, 2V6022, was hand written in black India ink by the maker at the factory, and the South Bend decal is wholly in tact, with only a couple of fish scales appearing over the top of it. The handle section measures 21-3/4" has a metal butt cap affixed, and the wooden portion was made of stained oak. The up-locking heavy duty reel seat has an outside diameter of 1-1/16" and ... moreis chrome plated. The fore grip is also made from stained wood and measures 5-1/4" The one-piece split bamboo rod section has an overall length of 69-1/8" is straight, and the male ferrule on its butt end was made of knurled nickel silver(please see the last picture) Moreover, the ferrule fits very tightly into the handle section. As noted above, the overall length when assembled is 7-1/2 feet. The guides appear to have been made of plated nickel silver, and they are all present and in great shape. The rod is also entirely factory original, including its varnish. The original blood-red silk guide wraps are all there, too, but two of them have become brittle with age and have come undone. They could easily be rewrapped, though. The bamboo of the rod section is in excellent overall condition with no cracks, gouges, or delamination. Simply put, I don't think a finer example of this ultra rare saltwater rod could ever be found, and it is apparent that it didn't see much use. This rod would also make an excellent big-fish freshwater rod-especially for strippers or big cats-and it is definitely cast-able. The winning bidder agrees to pay a flat economy rate of $20.

This pole belonged to my Great-Grandfather it seems to be in great condition. After looking at others listed. It is marked"SOUTH BEND a Name Famous in fishiing" written onto the pole is"HDH or D" and on the opposite side of the pole is written"346-9' the last photo shows that some varnish has popped off. It looks like the one tip was used more often. or had a big one on it at some time! I know nothing about fly fishing or vintage poles. so I took many pictures of it outside in good lighting. There is a South Bend decal and a partial 47-9 inscription. All sections measure 37” I would estimate the fly line weight at a six-seven. The 6 ¾” cork handle and South Bend lite lock reel seat are in good functional condition. There are three snake eye guides on the mid section. Two of which have been re-wrapped. There are four on the tip section and a stripper guide on the bottom section. The tip section is not original to the rod but it and all of the sections fit together perfectly when assembled. I meticulously stripped the old varnish. Refinished with four coats of spar varnish and completed it with high quality wood rubbing compounds. Both in great shape, except for the tip top line guide on one has a crack in it. Rod throws well. Finish and cork handle as well as the reel seat and guides. Vintage South Bend No. 24 Split Bamboo Fly Rod With Original Tube & Sleeve - VGC
For sale is a beautiful vintage South Bend No. 24 Split Bamboo Fly Rod With Its Original Tube And a Sleeve. This is an estate sale find so I cannot vouch that this is an original rod but if it’s been refinished it has been done so to a very high standard. The rod is a 4 piece/2 tip rod that measures 9’ in length. All of the pieces are equal in length and are straight. The rod is in what appears to be excellent condition with only some minor wear showing on it. The cork handle is clean and intact. The cork reel seat has a down locking metal nut, the ferrules are clean and tight and the guides are original and have beautiful green wrappings with a black border. The flaws that I see are what appears to be a varnish stain on the rod end of the cork handle and a couple of places on the blanks that show a little rash. I can see no cracks in the ... morebamboo. The decal on the rod is as follows: South Bend A Name Famous In Fishing No. 24…9’ Use Excel-Dreno Line HCH. C or GBF According to the Antique Rod and Reel Library the rod was designed for bass and steelhead fishing and weighs 6 ½ oz. The sleeve is not original but the tube is. With the remnants of the South Bend decal still on it. It is metal with a screw cap. This is a beautiful old rod that could be fished or would look great in a collection. Very nice 8 1/2 ft v intage South Bend No. 323 split bamboo 3 piece flyrod. Very good overall condition. A bit of tarnishing on some of the eyelets& receiver sections. All eyelets are secure with no unraveling or looseness. Sections go together firmly. Cork handgrip and reel mounting section are solid but show some usage wear. Two tip sections. One of which has a p a rt of the tip eyelet missing. Please see the photo's. Canvas 3 section case& steel storing tube. Steel tube is actually a Horro cks& Ibbotson C ompany tube. Original South bend label on base section& impressed mark on reel mount section. At cost shipping. Fully insured. Will ship USPS flat rate if that is less expensive.

This fly rod. Housed in the original cloth bag in excellent condition within a cardboard tube with metal end pieces, is in great pre-owned condition with little wear evident to the varnish. There are no missing line eye guides and the wrapping appears to be in great condition. Also included in this auction is the 3" diameter hard metal rod carrying case in mint condition. 8.5' is handwritten by ink pen on first rod section.

Nice Antique Vintage Old South Bend Split Bamboo Fly Rod Fishing Pole
Here is a Really Nice Old Bamboo Fly Rod. I believe this is a South Bend because the little bag that it fits in. Says"South Bend" but I couldn't find any markings on the Rod itself. There appears to be 2 different end pieces that you can use. One is longer than the other. When put together, the Rod measures approx. 7 1/2 inches long. The Rod is in Excellent Condition for it's age. I'm no expert on this types of items, so Feel Free to ask questions! It comes in an aluminum Case that probably isn't the original. On the bottom of the rod, the little metal piece does have a few dents/scratches in it. c

If you enjoy restoring old bamboo fly fishing rods you will like this one. It's an old South Bend 59-9' three piece rod in restorable condition. The reel seat is fine. The cork needs cleaning or replacing and all three pieces need to be stripped and re varnished. The butt section has the hook keeper but is missing the stripper guide, the mid section is missing the wire guides and the tip is missing one guide.
