Rare 'Wallop Brook' 2pc, Split Cane, 8 1/2' Trout Fly Rod by Constable.
This is a hard rod to find. Especially in this condition. The rod is virtually unfished. The only sign of use is a slight, very slight discolouring of the cork handle. On offer is a Dermot Wilson. The Wallop Brook' 2pc, Split Cane Trout Fly Rod built by Constable of Bromley. The rod measures 8' 2" in length and is for use with lines rated at#5/6. The rod comes in its makers cloth bag and in a protective alloy tube. You will note from the picture that the butt section is shorter than the tip which was peculiar to the Constable rods. Their thinking being that the tip is where the action came from. It is made to sit comfortably in the rod bag by using an elongated ferrule stopper which helps protect the tip when in carriage. The rod is immaculate. Here for auction is a vintage split cane flyrod. Cork handle. I see no makers marks on it. The pieces measure 36.75. 37 1/8 and 32.25” long. The tip is missing its ferule. There are some chips out of the cork handle. I have no idea as to what to look for in these older flyrods so am doing the best I can with images and descriptions. This is old and has been used. The images should show the condition. It needs to catch some fish again…I have several other flyrods up for auction and am happy to combine shipping if so desired. Vintage F E Thomas, Bangor ME, Special, Split Cane Trout Fly Rod.
This is a 3 piece. Split Cane Trout Fly Rod made by the American Rod Builder, F.E. Thomas of Bangor, ME. The rod is called the'Special' It measures 9' 3" in length and may be a bit short. The butt cap has the number 308 stamped into the base with a stamped triangle below it. The rod is contained in a green cloth bag and an aluminium rod tube with brass screw cap. The rod tube carries what was the makers transfer printed trade logo. This is. As can be seen a bit frazzled. The rod is as stated a three piece but would originally have had a spare tip section. This rod has been re-furbished from the butt eye to the tip. It has the original ferrules but I am not so sure on the eyes and tip eye. I believe the rod to be usable but it could do with re-whipping. If you have any questions please get in touch before bidding.

EXQUISITE 10ft MALLOCH OF PERTH SPLIT CANE FLY ROD Vintage 2-Piece cane rod casting a 5-6 wt line + Bag With spare tip and locking ferrules With no fewer than 212 immaculate whippings! Serial No. 12353 This is a truly magnificent built cane fly rod from one of Scotland's best rod makers: P D Malloch of Perth and probably dates back to the 1920s or perhaps a little earlier. I have tried to get an exact date from the rather early serial number of 12353 but cannot find a website that helped in this. This 10ft built cane trout fly rod comes with a spare tip that. As you would expect from a top manufacturer, is identical in every respect to whichever one you deem as the No.1 tip. They both have an amazing number of 84 immaculate dark crimson whippings excluding the ring whippings. One of the tip sections is very slightly lighter than the other- ... moreI imagine so that they can be identified one from the other. When laid side by side, each whipping is exactly opposite the one on the other section along the entire 5ft length. How do they do that? The ferrules are locking ferrules. Like those found on Hardy rods, that when located and fully screwed into position automatically line up the rings on both sections with the reel fitting on the bottom of the corks. Both end sections slide in easily and firmly without trouble and, just as important, come apart just as simply! The nickel(I think) rings are in good shape and certainly original with little if any tarnishing with the first and end rings having ceramic inserts with no groove wear(another reason for thinking it dates from around the 1920s) Whether the varnish is original could be open to debate as. Although both the end sections are immaculate, I noticed, when arduously counting the whippings, that there is a very small imperfection in the varnish, on the butt section, probably having been touched while drying. Vintage Hardy CC de France, 2pc Split Cane Trout Fly Rod with Bag
This is a good usable example of this very popular Trout Fly Rod by Hardy Brothers. It is the Hardy CC de France. 8 1/2' 5, 2 pc Split Cane Trout Fly Rod. The rod is a good length and is quite sought after. The rod comes with a makers cloth bag in blue. It has its female ferrule stopper. The rod has deep red whippings to the eyes and intermediates. I have mentioned above the light flaking to the varnish on some of these whippings. This I believe is due to use rather than any form of abuse. The butt cap carries the Hardy Trade name and the post number J5378. The damage to the female ferrule does not inhibit the setting up of the rod. I have priced the rod bearing these factors in mind. 1937/38 vintage Hardys palakona gold medal split cane trout rod
offered for sale again because previous buyer failed to complete sale. Complete idiot. This rod was made in 1937/38 according to the registration number. Please check it yourself on line. Consequently it is a vintage. Nearly antique rod. Bought new in 1939 by my uncle he used it for a few years then kept it in storage. I inherited it in the late 1980s used it a couple of times then put it back into storage. The rod is one of the best mark of cane rods made by Hardys and as such is a serious collectors piece. But for a purist it could still be used for catching fish. It however is not a pristine new rod. And although I consider it to be in very good condition, I am not an expert.
