Vintage bamboo fly fishing rod. It features 3. 3 foot pieces, so all together it is 9 feet long. It comes with extra end tip piece. Label is model 3002 with jumping fish. All pieces equal length and the entire rod is in very good condition. Solid. No repairs or cracks, looks to be all original. Does look like it missing one string guide at the end of middle section. See last picture, I assume there should be a guide there. I am no expert on fly fishing equip. I bought this at estate sale. For sale is a beautiful. Original Montague Rapidan Genuine Tonkin split bamboo fly rod. This rod was found in the rafters of a shed and is in original condition. It is a 4 piece/2 tip rod that is 8 ½ feet in length. All of the line guides. Wrappings and hook keeper and in very good, original condition. The cork handle is intact and clean. The metal reel seat is down locking and is fitted with a sliding sleeve in front of a single nut. This is a rod that could easily go into a collection or could be fished. The rod will be shipped in a PVC pipe to ensure safe delivery. Fish Rod is 4 pieces total = 3 piece rod plus a bonus tip section making it 4 pieces. Plus an original tube. Total length approximately 102” or 8’ 6” end to end. All of the sections are full length and are pretty straight. No repairs or damage. The rod is overall pretty clean, excellent used vintage condition. Nice tight fit. Nice rich warm patina. Wonderful addition to your collection. Original DECAL is in excellent condition with just a hint of wear. The words/model Tonkin Cane are present and very clear in white writing. Tips appear original. Original wraps, and eyes(1 eye missing typical on these vintage pieces) Think this model is from the late 1940s or early 1950s. In addition. There is ... morean aluminum tube(no sock) it has some old tape on it and a name finely etched on it. Tube needs a cleaning no major dents and original end caps are present. Competing head to head with Montague and South Bend. In 1894, Edward Ibbotson was hired as an errand boy. Gradually the company acquired existing tackle companies. Vintage Fly Rod Horricks Hibbotson Genuine Tonkin Split Cane w Case & Tube & Bag
Here for auction is a very nice vintage split cane flyrod with its cloth case and also the aluminum tube. It also came with a small fishing bag that has a pop open top with an aluminum metal thingy that keeps it rigid at the top. The inside of the bag is a bit worse for wear. The rod decal states: Genuine Tonkin Cane and is made by Horrocks Hibbotson. I believe it to be an H1 although that part of the decal is worn. There are 6 pieces to the rod. I will list their sizes in order of largest to smallest. 1: 17 7/8. 2; 17.75, 3: 17.75, 4: 17 5/8, 5: 17.75, and 6:12 7/8” All the metal parts are in great shape. One of the eyes has tape on it so I would presume that the cording came undone at some point. All the eyes are unbent. There are no breaks or repairs. The finish is quite nice.
