You are viewing/ bidding on a gently used Sage Fly Rod. The model is the SP line of rods which were developed in the late 1990's as a crossover rod for heavy trout/salmon to saltwater. The rod is the 890 model. Which is 9 foot, 3 piece, for an 8 wt. line. This rod is in near perfect condition with one small nick in the cork from casting with a ring on my finger. The pictures show this chip in the front of the cork handle. This can be easily smoothed out if desired. The rod was use twice; once as a salmon rod in Canada, and once as a bonefish rod in the Bahamas. It casts the line with power and precision. It is a delight to cast. It balances very nicely with any 8-9 wt reel. It will easily handle a 9 wt line. The rod has it's original cloth bag and aluminum tube. This older generation Graphite ... moreIII edition Sage GFL 890-3 RPLX Fly Rod indeed shows some signs of natural cosmetic wear and tear in the expected high traffic areas. As the photos show. The cork grip displays some staining from previous handling, and there are a few minor chips, small gouges, and bit of missing fill to be noted. While not as bright or as shiny as it once was new, the up-locking anodized aluminum reel seat still looks handsome and still functions perfectly too. A close inspection of the rod's glossy brown blank from tip to butt reveals the expected small usage marks in the typical high traffic areas. But otherwise shows no signs of catastrophic abuse like deep scratches, scores, or penetrating nicks that would in any way suggest the rod's original strength or integrity as compromised. A close review of the rod's guides does confirm a faint trace of tarnish and slight hint of oxidization around the base of both stripping guides(see pics! But no other greivances like grooving, deformation, or misalignment was found. A quick test-assembly and deep flexing confirms all ferrules as still snug fitting. Mid male ferrule and butt female ferrrule match as does the mid male and the tip female but the sets don't match each other. Up for auction is a Sage RPLX 9ft 8wt 3 piece that is in great condition for its age. I glanced over this rod and the only thing I noticed were two surface scratches as shown in the pictures 3 and 4 on the rod and couple on the reel seat from mounting the reel(picture 5) This rod has been babied and served as a back up for me. The only reason I am selling this rod is that it has not been used in several years and I have already bought another Sage fly rod to replace it. I am starting this rod at $150(plus $20.00 for shipping) which is well worth my asking price. I only have the original rod sock and I can not find the original rod tube. This rod was stored in a travel case that held 3 rods so I didn't need the aluminum tube anymore. The carrying case has much more wear than the rod as it was taken to the Bahamas twice! Was only fished twice for a total of about 4 hours fishing! So,my cousin wants to take up fly-fishing.after almost strangling himself on fly line,I suggested he stick with spinning gear! Cork is clean and seems un-used. During the reconditioning process the metal ferrule was replaced with a black fiberglass spigot. The rod casts an 8wt line and has that full-flex. Classic, vintage fiberglass action. Orvis Western fly rod 8wt 9'3" fly rod
I'm selling my Orvis Western 8wt 9'3" fly rod. comes with original bag. And tube. the cork has been sanded, I got it that way, but it has not been done badly. the only blemish on it is on the reel lock ring, see pic. All guides look good, and the wraps are brite and tight. over all a good looking and casting rod. I will ship rod in it's tube, in a box USPS insured, tracked.
