This is a newly rebuilt Smallstream split bamboo fly rod in three piece with single tip seven and a half foot long in four weight. The rod is built from a Southbend eight and a half footer which was shortened at the male ferrules. We used all premium components including a nickle silver cap and ring reelseat on a maple wood insert and a western style cork grip in"A" grade. The line guides tip top and stripper are chrome the hookeeper is silver ring type.The cane is finished with the coats of spar varnish and is wrapped in white and black classic twist. This is a Sage RPLXi 790-3 single hand saltwater/freshwater fly rod. This rod is the original version Sage made for saltwater. Followed by the Xi2, and the Xi3. It is used but in fantastic shape. The blank looks great, and the cork has only the average amount of wear from the half dozen times it was fished. The rod tube has a small amount of scuffing on it and some of the coating has pulled off from duct taping rod tubes together for a trip. This is a 1988- 2 piece- 8 foot 3 weight Winston Graphite Fly Rod which was lightly used and is in excellent condition. The weight of this rod is 1 7/8 ounces. It was purchased new and has had only one owner. The case has a few scratches. A smudge and a small dent which needs to be looked for to locate. The identification info on the cap of the rod case is worn off. The soft protective sponge material on the inside of the tube cap is loose. I decided not to add a drop of glue so as to show the rod components exactly as they are. The rod is in perfect working order. The ferrules are tight with no loose connections and has an absolute one piece feel. The wraps are very close to the day it left the factory as new in 1988. This is the rod for small to medium streams for trout. It is at home fishing small flies on light tippets such as 16 or 18 ... morepale evening duns, 18- 24 blue winged olives or 24 tricos. This is a beautiful fiberglass fly rod custom built by Shane Gray of Graywolf Fly Rods. This two weight is so very capable of extreme close up work. And also has a surprising amount of reserve power for longer casts, up to fifty feet. Lays down a dry fly with a whisper. If you are familiar with the Signature S Glass series, you will know that these are a moderate/fast(For Glass) with a very quick recovery. Tip bounce is nil, and the weight of this rod is very similar to a graphite rod in the same dimensions. Beautiful lemke uplocking seat over a very attractive wood insert. The blank is in good condition, with some marks, but nothing of any real concern. The corks looks good, as does the reel seat and extension butt. Guides are tight and straight in the wraps. The metal on the stripper guide shows some oxidation, but that is the only corrosion I see on the rod. The aluminum tube is pretty scuffed up, and has some tape residue, but no dents. There are small holes around the flap of the rod sock.
