This is a used rod in excellent condition. It was my absolute GO TO Rod when I was fishing in shore for redfish. Snook, or sea trout. it was a little heavy for my freshwater fishing. But I did use it in bedding season when the likelihood of getting into a nine or 10 or even 11 pound bass was not out of the question. This rod is currently $260.00 on the Temple Fork Site I was very fortunate in that I met Rick Pope when he was just starting to distribute temple fork rods. Because I tied flies at the national shows for almost 10 years I was able to test all of the new rods as they would appear at the shows. All manufacturers have a couple of rods in each series that are just"sweet" In the this series. The five weight, eight weight and 12 weight were simply outstanding rods. Even when I had the opportunity to get similar rods by Sage. ... moreLoomis etc. and I did own many of them, there was simply no reason to spend any extra money for the sweet spot rods in the TFO line up. This rod can simply do it all. Because redfish are very spooky longer casts are needed and the east coast of Florida is usually breezy. I usually went up one size and cast this rod with a nine weight line. If the weather was flat calm I would use and eight weight and if it was very windy and I had to make those specialty very low to the water casts. I would actually drop-down a size and use a seven weight as it would cut the wind slightly better. I am pretty fanatical about maintaining equipment. So while this rod has been well used over the last few years, it has many years of use left to it. My recent disability has forced me to sell all of my fly fishing rods and equipment as well as my fly tying equipment and materials. The handle shows use but is only darker than a new one- no pieces/chunks are missing. The"thumb spot" of the cork creaks a little when applying a good amount of thumb pressure. Winston Boron-IIx 890-4 FLY ROD(9'0" 4pc 8wt) with Rod Tube and Rod Sock included The Winston BIIx Series 9'0" 4-piece 8-weight Fly Rod being auctioned here is in excellent lightly ... moreused condition. Very well-cared for by its previous owner and seldom fished. This smooth loading, lightweight, fast-action fly rod naturally shows only a faint few nominal signs of trace cosmetic wear and tear in the expected high traffic areas. As evidenced in the photos. The cork grip display a modest bit of light staining from previous handling, and save for one small chip found on the handle forward leading edge(see pic! the grip remains refreshingly void from any major dents, gouges, or excessive missing fill. While not as pristine perhaps as it first was new. The sturdy up-locking woven-graphite reel seat looks great and still functions perfectly too. A close inspection of the rod's signature glossy green blank from tip to butt reveals the typical small scuffs and scrapes in the usual places. But no signs of catastrophic abuse like deep scratches, scores, or penetrating nicks were found that would in any way hint the rod's original strength or integrity as compromised. The rod and line are in near perfect condition. Used twice. This rod would work great for Bonefish. Permit, Steelhead, Smallmouth bass. The line is a Scientific Anglers, Mastery Textured Series, Saltwater Clear Tip. WF-8-F/S. 30m. The line is light blue in color, floating, with a clear slow sinking tip. Nice for fishing anything but dry flies. The textured line shoots very well through the guides but does not burn my fingers as bad as my"shark skin" with a fast fish run. Cabelas sells this line for over $80 alone. The only negative I must note is the ugly duct tape glue residue on the case. I tape my cases together and bring them on the plane as my special carry ... moreon item when I travel.
