This older generation Graphite IV edition ... moreSage SP+ 890-3 Fly Rod indeed shows some signs of natural cosmetic wear and tear in the expected high traffic areas. As the photos show. The cork grip displays some staining from previous handling, and there are a few noteworthy chips, minor gouges, and bit of missing fill to be noted(see pics) While not as bright or as shiny as it once was new, the up-locking anodized aluminum reel seat still looks handsome enough, and functions perfectly too. A close inspection of the rod's glossy blank from tip to butt reveals the expected small usage marks in the typical high traffic areas. But otherwise shows no signs of catastrophic abuse like deep scratches, scores, or penetrating nicks that would in any way suggest the rod's original strength or integrity as compromised. A close review of the rod's guides confirms a faint trace of tarnish and slight hint of rust present around the ceramic rings and the base of a few guide's feet. No other greivances like grooving, deformation, or misalignment was found. A quick test-assembly and deep flexing confirms all ferrules as still snug fitting. Excellent condition Sage SP390 Graphite IV Fly Rod with Sage rod bag and tube. The rod has the usual normal wear marks on butt and blank but absolutely no damage. The rod is functionally like it was when it was brand new. The tube however has a lot scuff marks from storage but it is also perfect in functionality. I got the rod used on the bay when I lived in proximity to bigger waters where 9' rods were commonly used. I now fish primarily smaller wild trout streams with smaller bamboo rods. The quality cork handle and heavily anodised, uplocking reel seat are immaculate. As I have shown in the last two photographs. Two small sections of cork have been replaced on the fighting butt. I bought this nice Sage SP fly rod several years ago and have used it exclusively on small to medium trout streams. It is a beautiful rod that is a pleasure to use and I wish I had been able to get off work more often to use it. It has never been damaged or needed repair. The only sign of occasional use is a mild cosmetic dulling in the rod's finish that can be seen in certain spots if you look closely. My research indicates that the SP series was produced from 1993 to 1998. And in the last year of production it retailed for about $600. Note: The sock in the picture is not the one the rod comes with. The correct sock and the one I will use when I ship the rod is thicker. Softer and provides more protection. Rod shows light use judging by slight darkening of the cork grip, although the Graphite IV shafts are pristine with no scratches or rubs. Note the uplocking reel seat with hardwood spacer. Wraps are all original and tight. Ferrules fits snugly and have a good gap- note the witness dots to help line up the sections. Serial number R17774(just above the grip) means this was a factory made rod. Comes with the original partitioned bag, thick walled aluminum tube, and warranty registration card. This rod has a well regarded medium fast action with more flex and"feel" than many modern rods. Interesting taper- rated for a 4 and it cast smoothly for ... moreme with 3. 4, and 5 weight lines- had to wait a little longer on the backcast for the rod to load with the 3 weight line. Sage Durascrim Graphite IV 690-3 SP Fly Rod - #6 Line - 9'0" - 3 oz - No Reserve
This is a no reserve auction for a Sage Durascrim Graphite IV 690-3 SP fly rod with silver wraps. It throws a#6 line. The rod is 9 feet 0 inches long and weighs 3 ounces. I am the original owner and the rod is registered. Selling without the warranty card. It was purchased at Bud Lilly's Trout Shop in West Yellowstone, Montana on August 7, 1995, making it roughly 19 years old. The rod has been fished regularly each summer for most of those years and is in very good condition. The photos included are high quality and aim to show prospective buyers the rod's condition. It comes with the original tube and rod sock. The rod tip was repaired by Sage in Bainbridge, Washington in November and just returned to me. I broke the tip by striking a rock on a forward cast on the Madison River in October. Sage does excellent repair work and the ... morewinning bidder will find this rod will perform perfectly. The rod case has scratches and the rod ferrules exhibit marks from assembly and take-down. The rod blank is in excellent condition as are the guides. The grip shows normal wear but no damage, as does the reel seat and butt end. See photos for detail. My reason for selling is I recently purchased a used Sage Z-axis 6 weight on eBay. Sage SP 490-2 fly rod! 9' 4 wt 2 pc rod, Graphite IV.
INTERNATIONAL BIDDERS! US only. Sorry! Up for auction: You are bidding on a Sage SP 9' 4wt fly rod. Model SP 490-2. This is an extremely versatile light trout rod, and this may be one of the most beloved rods that Sage ever produced. So, whether you are casting a caddis in the evening to splashing risers below Wolf Creek on the mighty Missouri, or perhaps stalking wary sippers on the main branch of the Delaware, this rod is up to the task. Really, one of the most loved and sought after rods from Sage and often considered the most collectible of any of the Sage series of rods, along with the LL's. This rod is in overall excellent condition. Does not appear to have been fished more than a handful times. Which is what our guess is. Cork shows some light to moderate color though still pretty smooth and no fill loss. A handful of light ... moremarks on blank, and a few small marks on spacer on reel seat. Rel seat hardware has a few light marks as well. Everything else looks excellent. Comes with original rod tube and sock, rod tube shows a good deal of wear but is 100% functional(it is, after all, an aluminum tube. For these reasons we conservatively rate this rod as an 8/10, with 10 being new. Here is an opportunity to get a great fly rod at a great price(low reserve. This rod when new had an original MSRP of around $500. So here's an opportunity to get a great rod at an even better price(low reserve! Again, the condition of this rod is EXCELLENT + and it is exceedingly rare to find an SPL in this condition, let alone finding an SPL in any condition!
