Vintage Hardy"The Silex Major" 3 1/2 Inch Reel This fabulous Hardy"The Silex Major" reel is in"as found" condition and has not been restored or repaired by us. The reel measures 3 1/2 inches across and has"The Silex Major. Pat. Nos. 2206,21131& 4163, Made By Hardy Bros Ltd, Alnwick, England" impressed in to the back plate. The brake lever and turning button regulator work fine. The reel revolves well with a good smooth action.The release latch works fine and the smooth brass foot is well attached and sturdy. The handles are solid and secure and I can't find any chips or cracks to the reel. But there are minor line burn marks to the cross struts, please see the photographs. ... moreInternally the reel is stamped with the letters J.W. Which I believe, is the initials of the gentleman who made the reel, this could either by Joe Wallis or John Waugh. The reel does have the usual scratches. Vintage Hardy"The Eureka" 3 1/2 Inch Reel This lovely Hardy's"Eureka" reel. Is in"as found" used condition and has not been restored or repaired by us. The reel measures 3 1/2 inches across and has"The Eureka Reel. Size 3 1/2" Made By Hardy Bros Ltd, England, Pat. Nos. 24245& 9261. The bar release latch to the front of the reel works well but may be a replacement. The reel still revolves well with a good smooth action. But there is a small rub at one point and there is a small amount of play when the spool is rocked. The ribbed brass foot is well attached and sturdy and is impressed with"Pat No. 272409" The optional check lever and mechanism ... morework fine. The ebonite handles are free from any crazing and chips and are solidly attached. The reel has the usual scratches and scuffs that you would expect from the years of use.
