An excellent example of the Elarex by Hardy Comes in its Rexine case with good leather strap There is an oiler marked'R H ROUND BIRMINGHAM' Also a wire flat head screwdriver marked'TERRYS MADE IN ENGLAND' They were with the reel when I acquired it. I have not polished the reel. As these things are easily overdone The reel winds smoothly and silently. As you would expect of a high quality example of engineering.

Vintage ~"Dingley D1" Silex Pattern 4 Inch Bait Casting Reel PLEASE NOTE THIS IS ON THE UK SITE AND LISTED IN GB POUNDS. Vintage 4 inch"Dingley D 1" Silex Pattern Reel This fabulous"Dingley" silex pattern reel is in"as found" condition and has not been restored or repaired by us. William H. Dingley or Walter as he was known. Worked for some of the best fishing tackle manufacturers including"Hardy Brothers" for 20 years, and became a skilled reel maker. His reels are now recognised as the work of a great craftsman. The reel measures 4 inches across and has" D 1" and"7" stamped inside the reel. The reel revolves ok but has a rub at one point. The casting trigger and the tension regulator work fine. The spring release latch works, but the drum is tight in the cage and is a ... morelittle dfficult to remove. There is no play in the spool when it is rocked. There are no splits or cracks to the cage but there are two small chips to the drum rim. As well as the usual scuffs and marks. The twin ivorine handles are well attached and sturdy. As is the smooth brass foot, the foot does have a bend to one end. This is a nice example of a rare"Dingley" reel and is so evocative of times and anglers past. for sale here is a good vintage JW youngs freedex. Circa 1947, 4" size, designed by ted young for salmon and pike as a baitcasting reel, rear on/off check lever, front spool tension wheel, patent ergo-grip dimple handles, very clever 2 screw drum release head with no damage to the centre boss and stamped JWY258 on the rear, 3 screw foot unfiled and undamaged, good strong check, smooth wind, overall the reel is very good with only minimal paint loss as seen, no bucles etc further details on page 103-105 of elwyn attwoods book on youngs reels.nice lot.please see my other listings of hardy and other vintage fishing items this week.
