The ribbed brass foot is sturdy and well attached, as is the ebonite handle. The agate lined line guide has"Hardy's Pat" impressed in to it and shows minimal signs of wear, the rim regulator screw moves fine. The reel revolves well with a good smooth action and the two screw release latch works fine. There is no play in the reel ... morewhen the spool is rocked. The reel has retained much of its' original finish. However, there is some loss around the handle as well as usual scratches and scuffs that you would expect from the years of use, but all adds to its' character and charm, so evocative of times and anglers past. Hardy St Aidan light salmon/sea trout reel, original reel case and spare spool
This is a vintage Hardy St Aidan 3¾ inch Salmon/Sea Trout reel. Complete with spare spool and the original Hardy reel case. The reel is in very good used condition with a little cosmetic paint damage(see enlarged photos) and is in excellent working order. It has the standard Hardy single screw nickel line guide and a brass tension screw. There are no obvious signs of wear on the line guard. There is no obvious free play when the spool is fitted into the cage.The alloy foot is original and unfiled. The spools are both quick release and the reel can be easily converted for either left or right hand wind. The reel case still works but is a bit battered(see photos) This was originally sold by Hardy’s as a light salmon reel and would work well on a light double hander or a switch rod. But it is absolutely ideal as either a sea trout or a ... moresteelhead reel, simple, powerful and robust. The spool holds a double taper or weight forward number 7 flyline plus some hundred and thirty yards of standard twenty pound braided dacron backing or rather more microfibre backing. I am also selling another St Aidan. In slightly more battered condition(please see my other items) and would happily combine postage if anyone chose to buy both lots. Any questions.
