It measures 3 inches in diameter and is in very good working order I had originally listed this reel as an ALVEY however I have been corrected by a more knowledgable source that this was actually manufactured by M B WRAGG CO of Gardenvale Vic(thanks for the info SEAJAMES) It is marked on one side in raised script: Alpha. I cannot find a maker’s name but the spool measures 12 cm or nearly 5 inches across. The backplate. Spool and knobs are made of brown Bakelite and the rod mount and turning mechanism are made of brass. The reel pivots and this type of reel is mostly called a side cast. It had a ratchet but this is not working. It is in very good cosmetic condition with no chips or cracks. It weighs 660g unpacked. The spool is quite wide and would take a large amount of line. My father now old and frail is clearing out his study. And has a few Fishing related books etc.I can combine shipping with any book or other item he is selling. This is a very old fishing reel in Bakelite(we think) and brass. It has a brake stop lever but it doesn't work so we think something is missing. Probably a spring to pull the brake stop into position. Otherwise it is a lovely old reel without damage or chips. Vintage Bakelite Fishing Reel with Brass Fittings. Good Condition.
This is a very old Vintage Bakelite reel with brass fittings. The reel is unnamed and in good condition with no cracks or chips. The inside of the reel has brass pillars that the line winds onto. These pillars are secured by brass round head screws. The knobs are secured on brass plates and are also in good condition. It turns very freely and smoothly with the drag being adjusted by tightening the front brass wing nut. It is a large reel measuring 6" in diameter and 1 1/4"wide. vintage fishing reel, Allcock Aerialite bakelite 1930's?
Description This is a very nice bakelite bodied reel with nickel plated brass fittings and a steel handle bar. Made by Allcocks. This is the Aerialite reel, made in England. This is a lovely reel in need of some small attention to bring them back to their best- I believe only the nick to the front of the spool would be hard to fix! It seems to run nicely and the ratchet switches in and out nicely. It does still have line on it although I doubt this is any good! I haven't removed the line to check the inside of the spool. Size: 3 3/4 inch(9.5cm) diameter to the reel itself. 1 1/2 inch thick(3.7cm) and the section for mounting it to the rod is 2 1/2 inches long(6.3cm) I have described this as I see it but am no expert. Please ask any questions you may have and i'll do my best to answer them for you. Made of bakelite for the spool and body, with nickel plated brass fittings and a steel/plastic handle. The bakelite body and spool are in good condition generally, with one small chip on the edge of the spool and a couple of small patches which are slightly rough but may clean off. The nickel plated fittings look intact but have a bit of verdigris forming which should clean up ok. The line guide has worn down to brass. The handle bar is made of steel and has rusted through the chromed finish, this does look poor now but seems only surface deep and would clean up with dismantling and polishing. The small black handles look in good condition and do not turn. The larger handle looks like it is made of marbled bakelite type plastic. The ratchet mechanism does work and is selectable. PLEASE NOTE-all items sold are Antique/Vintage and used-whilst I try and describe condition to the best of my ability all items are used and sold as such.
