Hello and welcome to the auction and thank you for viewing.This is for a rare Hardy fly reel clear acrylic shop display stand with Hardy fly within castle logo.This stand was I understand made for a shop to display a Hardy reel and is estimated to date from the 1970's.I have been informed that these stands are very rare and were usually retained by Hardys.Because of this I believe that they would never have been offered for sale as a retail item.The stand measures approximately 10cm.by 10.cm.by 2cm.deep.There is an original slot for the reel foot where the reel foot locates.The slot measures 6.3cm. by 1.5cm.They appear to have been made in two sizes for larger and smaller reels.There may well have been a small pad of black padding in foam or of a similar substance for the reel foot slot where the foot of the reel sits but there is no ... morepad present however any suitable material cut to size would suffice.I plan to list a similar Hardy stand for larger reels which has a slightly bigger reel foot slot which is located in a different position.Please ignore any camera reflections in the photograph.The stand weighs 215 grams unpacked.A rare Hardy item few of which I would think are in general circulation. Was a Winfield Reel everybody's first fishing reel? Of course not. I keep forgetting that some young fishermen probably cannot even remember Woolworth's! This is a Woolworth's. Winfield 3 1/4" Dry Fly Reel. The reel is maroon in colour with a creamy white hub and winding handle. It has been used but only very lightly. There is, as stated above a small area around the rear hub where the paint has flaked. It is otherwise excellent and has a lovely adjustable drag system. The reel comes in its original and striking. hi for consideration here I have 2 vintage fishing reels. Firstly is a vintage hardy 3.5 inch lightweight fly reel in ok condition I would say, quite some paint loss and chips, it spins well enough and has a correct smooth alloy foot, inside it has a double check mechanism, secondly is a vintage alloy and what must be brass with a tortoise shell pattern, this reel measures 3 and has a slightly wobbly bone handle with constant check, the foot is ever so slightly wobbly as well, it also has brass pillars, but again it spins ok, posted recorded delivery thanks for looking and good luck, ps please take a look at my other vintage items for sale thank you please make payment as soon as possible to avoid a delay in posting as I fish most days. Vintage J W YOUNG & SONS Landex Fly Fishing Reel (MW) - 3 1/2" c.1950's
Vintage J W YOUNG& SONS Landex Fly Fishing Reel(MW) 3 1/2" c.1950's Ref: This is a vintage J W Young Landex Fly Reel. Which is 3 1/2" in diameter. The spool itself is just under 1" wide, which makes this a"Medium Width" MW reel. This reel is marked J W YOUNG& SONS Ltd. With textured finish, which I this dates it to late 1950's, maybe early 1960's. The spool is retained by a two screw latch. Overall condition of the reel itself is very good. With only superficial wear and surface scratches to the finish, mainly around the outer rims(see photos) The frame is in very good condition with no cracks or repairs and no line cuts or abrasions. This particular example has an alloy line guard, which carries the remains of a registered design number(now unreadable) The reel has both it's original ebonite ... morewinding handles. Which each carry the design registation number 843417. The handles still turn freely on their spindles, in both directions. There are a couple of superficial scratches and a miniscle nick on the edge of the alloy foot. But otherwise it is in excellent original condition, has not been modified and remains firmly attached. The spindle is in good condition. As it the check, which produces a good strong and even click. The spring loaded finger latch releases and retains the spool, which turns very smoothly in both directions, with no wobble and no binding. This reel has unusual winding and check mechanisms, described by J W Young as follows: 1. Patent check regulator. Permitting variable tension to main check spring. 2. Emergency set of checkwork. Mounted in a cage; can be readily engaged without the aid of equipment. 3. INDEPENDENT DOUBLE HANDLE UNIT REMAINS STATIONARY when playing a fish or pulling off line; disengagement and engagement are entirely automatic.
