Vintage J W YOUNG & SONS Landex Fly Fishing Reel (MW) - 3 1/2" c.1950's
Vintage J W YOUNG& SONS Landex Fly Fishing Reel(MW) 3 1/2" c.1950's Ref: This is a vintage J W Young Landex Fly Reel. Which is 3 1/2" in diameter. The spool itself is just under 1" wide, which makes this a"Medium Width" MW reel. This reel is marked J W YOUNG& SONS Ltd. With textured finish, which I this dates it to late 1950's, maybe early 1960's. The spool is retained by a two screw latch. Overall condition of the reel itself is very good. With only superficial wear and surface scratches to the finish, mainly around the outer rims(see photos) The frame is in very good condition with no cracks or repairs and no line cuts or abrasions. This particular example has an alloy line guard, which carries the remains of a registered design number(now unreadable) The reel has both it's original ebonite ... morewinding handles. Which each carry the design registation number 843417. The handles still turn freely on their spindles, in both directions. There are a couple of superficial scratches and a miniscle nick on the edge of the alloy foot. But otherwise it is in excellent original condition, has not been modified and remains firmly attached. The spindle is in good condition. As it the check, which produces a good strong and even click. The spring loaded finger latch releases and retains the spool, which turns very smoothly in both directions, with no wobble and no binding. This reel has unusual winding and check mechanisms, described by J W Young as follows: 1. Patent check regulator. Permitting variable tension to main check spring. 2. Emergency set of checkwork. Mounted in a cage; can be readily engaged without the aid of equipment. 3. INDEPENDENT DOUBLE HANDLE UNIT REMAINS STATIONARY when playing a fish or pulling off line; disengagement and engagement are entirely automatic. No wear or wobble, nice crisp check and free turning handles. The grey paint finish has some damage inside the drum plates where the line goes but the outside of the reel looks really good. Vintage Hardy Hydra Reel 3 1/2"
This auction is for a vintage Hardy Bros of Alnwick'The Hyrda' fly casting reel. It's been dry stored for well over 20 years now. And has seen a lot of use in its life before that, but has been well cared for. As such it has some wear and tear consistent with general use, but that's it. It's a very lightweight reel, and the action is very smooth, although I agree with web reports that it is a very loud reel! I understand it was manufactured between 1958 and 1967, but I am unsure what mark this is exactly. The rear of the reel reads: The Hydra" Hardy Bros. Alnwick) Ltd. 3 1/2" It's currently loaded with WF9F line. Probably spooled by my great uncle in excess of 40 years ago! I am selling a Nottingham Star back fishing reel. It came out of a loft and had probably been there for decades. The reel has no makers name on it but is extremely well crafted. An Alcock? This is a working example of the Allcocks Marvel 3 1/2" Trout Fly Reel. The reel has an adjustable ratchet and features the octagonal Allcocks name disk. The reel has a black crackle finish which is in reasonable condition on the front side but no doubt suffered somewhat on the backplate which prompted a previous owner to strip it. Unusual 3 1/2" Caged Nottingham Starback Centre Pin Reel
An unusual 3 1/2ins. Caged Nottingham Starback Centre Pin Reel dating to around 1900. Clearly converted from a standard centre pin the brass pillars of the cage have been tapped off with copper pins. The original handles of the reel have been removed and a single handle added. The original lineguard has also been removed and been replaced with a porcelain lineguard. The central screw head has been replaced with a rubber square. The reel turns well on its spindle. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions. 3 1/2ins. Ogden Smiths Dingley (D) '2' Alloy Trout Reel
An Ogden Smiths 3 1/2ins Alloy and Brass Trout Reel dating to the 1930's. Stamped Ogden Smiths LONDON to the backplate. The style and form of this reel suggest it was made by Walter Dingley as does the presence of a partially obscured stamp'2' to the interior of the backplate just above the foot of the check spring. In all likelihood the spring obscures the'D' which would have preceded the 2. Making this a Dingley D2. In terms of style and form the reel displays many characteristics of a Dingley reel including the angular casting, raised cone on the backplate housing the spindle, the squared off recess surrounding the spindle inside, the blued check spring and the collar around the foot of the reel handle which is made of a 1930's plastic composite. The reel retains almost all of its original leading even if the foot ... morehas been cleaned at some point in its life. The faceplate has been engraved. Probably by the original owner R.B.L. Please note there are two minor line burns which are negligible to the bottom pillar as well as residue of silk line dressing on the inside of the drum/spool and on the inside of one or two of the pillars. This can be removed with a cotton bud and some warm water. The check works well and is tight. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions. Vintage Allcock Aerial Popular, 3 1/2" Centrepin Spinning Reel.
This is a good usable example of the Allcocks Aerial'Popular' 3 1/2" Diameter Centre Pin Reel. The reel spins well, has twin xylonite handles and a brass foot. The pictures are a good reflection of the reels cosmetic condition with the black finish showing considerable wear. It is also a bit dusty but will clean up well. You are seeing the reel as it came out of the tackle bag. The reel has six spokes and the spool release and tension adjuster are located on two of these. The ratchet selector switch is on the back plate. There is a slight bed to one end of the foot where somebody has rushed to remove it from the rod rings.
