Vintage Hardy" The Silex Major" 3 3/4 Inch Reel This lovely Hardy's"Silex Major" reel is in"as found" Used condition and has not been restored or repaired by us. The reel measures 3 3/4 inches across and has"The Silex Major. Pat. Nos. 2206, 21131& 4163, Size 3 3/4" Made By Hardy Bros Ltd, Alnwick, England" impressed in to the back plate. The rim regulator screw and dial work fine. As does the brake lever. The reel revolves well and has a good action. The alloy release latch works fine and ribbed brass foot is well attached and sturdy. The handles are solid and secure. The front plate retains some of the original finish. However, there is some pitting ... morethe a section of the rim and some"line burn" marks to the struts. But nothing that detracts from the oveall appearance of the reel. Internally the reel is stamped with the initials T.A. Which I believe, is the name of the gentleman who made the reel, Thomas Appleby, he worked for Hardy's from 1920- 1947. The does have the usual scratches and scuffs that you would expect from the years of use. All adds to its' character and charm, so evocative of times and anglers past. The original black paint work is in good condition with only minor losses to the rim of the spool, there are also some small blemishes to the paint finish to the edge of the back plate. The reel revolves smoothly without any wobble and there is no play when the spool is rocked. The ratchet/check lever works fine. vintage hardy lightweight fishing reel 3.5 inch + 3 inch alloy fly fishing reel
hi for consideration here I have 2 vintage fishing reels. Firstly is a vintage hardy 3.5 inch lightweight fly reel in ok condition I would say, quite some paint loss and chips, it spins well enough and has a correct smooth alloy foot, inside it has a double check mechanism, secondly is a vintage alloy and what must be brass with a tortoise shell pattern, this reel measures 3 and has a slightly wobbly bone handle with constant check, the foot is ever so slightly wobbly as well, it also has brass pillars, but again it spins ok, posted recorded delivery thanks for looking and good luck, ps please take a look at my other vintage items for sale thank you please make payment as soon as possible to avoid a delay in posting as I fish most days. It is quite tarnished with a lightly pitted area near the engraving(see last Photo) There is a very small bruise/dent at 2 o'clock(with foot at 6) on the outer rim on the handle side and a few marks around the handle. The ribbed brass foot is sturdy and well attached, as is the ebonite handle. The agate lined line guide has"Hardy's Pat" impressed in to it and shows minimal signs of wear, the rim regulator screw moves fine. The reel revolves well with a good smooth action and the two screw release latch works fine. There is no play in the reel ... morewhen the spool is rocked. The reel has retained much of its' original finish. However, there is some loss around the handle as well as usual scratches and scuffs that you would expect from the years of use, but all adds to its' character and charm, so evocative of times and anglers past. Here is a nice scarce vintage fishing reel. It is in good clean used condition(see clear picture to decide before bidding) It is a nice solidly made old wooden fishing reel which is 3 inches diameter and 1.75 inches in width. It has a very free wind movement and features a brass strap back and foot. No maker name that I can see. Not often seen for sale in this size. Postage reflects the new Royal Mail price structure for this size of item to be posted and I will only send item signed for.
