The smooth alloy foot and twin tapered handles are sturdy and well attached. The drag adjustor works well and the markings on the dial are clear. The optional check works fine, but the metal switch is a little bent. The reel revolves well with a good smooth action. However, there is a slight wobble detectable. Very rare bakelite reel that looks like a trotting reel it has the RARE pink ceramic line guard. A similar line guard was sold by Allcocks in their 1937 catalogue see photo number 5, but the Allcocks has the later fitted support bar on. The earlier models. As this one is, the support bar was not fitted. It is also very very similar to the Milwards float rover trotting reel and there should be some on ebay. There are no makers stickers as the Milwards usually have. So maybe it came off. This reel is in EXCELLENT condition. There are NO cracks, chips or scratches and looks to be very little used. A rare opportunity to aquire a specimen trotting reel.

Vintage JW Young Rapidex Trotting Reel This is a nice vintage centrepin reel. Made by J W Young& Sons of Redditch,England. A centre pin reel designed for trotting light line. The reel measures 4 inches in diameter. The spool is narrow at approx 1/2 inch wide. It is in very good working order. With a strong on off check. With the check lever in the off position the reel spins smoothly with no apparent wobble. The finish is generally good.Although there are signs of wear in places. The spool suffers light wear around the edges. There is further light wear of the black bobble finish on the face of the spool.
