Vintage"Hardy's Altex" No. 2 Mark V Fixed spool Reel This lovely"Hardy's Altex" reel is in"as found" condition and has not been restored or repaired by us. The reel has some paint loss. Mainly to the stem, foot and bottom of the body as well as the usual wear marks that you would associate with a reel of this age. The plate to the side has the"Hardy" trademark. Appointment Crests and model details, the plate to the back has a list of"British patent no's" The reel still revolves well with a good smooth action and the bail arm works fine. The bakelite handle is well attached and there are no chips or cracks to it. At some point the previous owner ... morehas scratched"III" in to the face of the spool. The reel is stamped internally with the initials"J. L. this is. I believe, the initials of the reels maker Jack Luke who worked for"Hardy's" between 1936- 1987. Hardy Altex No 3 Mk V classic reel, really excellent, collectable and useable!
Here we have a really nice used example of the classic Hardy Altex No3 Mk5 fixed spool reel. Lovely high quality vintage item. I read lots of Chris Yates and decided to try these beautifully engineered reels. It's great to use and stands up to modern equivalents really well. I just prefer my old Abu Cardinal from the 1970's. So rather than leave this sitting in the bag, it ought to go to someone else who will make good use of it. This is the right hand wind"lefty" version. Just a few items to show for it's age and use on this smooth working example. With permanent anti-reverse and front drag control. The clutch operates, but in my opinion needs professional adjustment and perhaps a replacement dog or spring. The bail arm is very crisp and the reel works as it should. Hardy Altex No.1 - Mk IV - Geared Bail - with bag - Rare
Hardy Altex No.1 MkIV geared bail spinning reel from my collection. This reel probably dates from around the late 1940's and has apparently seen limited use as it retains virtually all of it's dark gunmetal finish and shows very little wear and tear at all. And appears to have spent most of it's life in it's bag in a drawer. This beautiful little reel features the geared bail arm which eliminates the need for a bail spring(which tended to break) and makes it's operation virtually silent, an ebonite handle, a fully marked ebonite spool which has no chips or cracks, a lovely brass star drag and retaining screw, and a folding handle with the beautiful two piece knurled retaining nut. All screws on this reel appear to be unmolested, the bail arm operates smoothly and crisply as it should, the handle turns smoothly and quietly. ... moreInside are stamped the initials R.J. most likely for Hardy's master reel maker Jack Johnson. I have lubed and oiled this reel and given it a good clean and it is now ready for your pleasure to use or collect.
