The gear ratio is 3 to 1 and will hold 380 yds of 25 lb test mono. All the side plates. Crank arm, and star drag are stainless steel. These reels didn't get the credit they deserve when they were sold, they are great reels for saltwater fishing, strong drags, load clickers and smooth freespool along with the stainless steel parts. All you have to do is give it a good spray wash with fresh wate rwhen you are done fishing and it will last a long time! The reel has been torn down, cleaned lubed and is ready to fish, we guarantee it! Circa 1947, 4" size, designed by ted young for salmon and pike as a baitcasting reel, rear on/off check lever, front spool tension wheel, patent ergo-grip dimple handles, very clever 2 screw drum release head with no damage to the centre boss and stamped JWY258 on the rear, 3 screw foot unfiled and undamaged, good strong check, smooth wind, overall the reel is very good with only minimal paint loss as seen, no bucles etc further details on page 103-105 of elwyn attwoods book on youngs reels.nice lot.please see my other listings of hardy and other vintage fishing items this week.

Side Casting Salmon Fishing Reel by Mulloch of Perth, Antique
ANTIQUE/VINTAGE FISHING REEL BY MULLOCH OF PERTH. A good 4 inch. 10.5cm side casting fishing reel by Malloch of Perth. Constructed from brass, designed to exchange the drum by removing a screw. It has a sprung steel catch to change from casting to retrieving the line and also from left to right handed use. The large guide eye remains stationary on the fixed arm allowing the line to pass through in which ever position the reel is being used. The convex surface on the flange on the casting side assists in the escape of the line. The Malloch’s Patent oval logo is stamped on the winding plate. Peter Malloch was born in Almondbank. Near Perth in Scotland in 1853. With his brother James they went into business in 1875 as Taxidermists and fishing tackle suppliers. In 1884 in Britain, Malloch was second to patent a fixed spool casting reel but he ... morewas the first to market it successfully.

Overall excellent as can be seen with most paint finish still intact, no damage dents buckles or flaws at all, rarer model in fine collectors condition, comes in original box which is also very fine, comes with spare spool too, all in perfect and original working order. very smooth wind, normally these reels are pretty rough and corroded but this one is a really nice mechanically excellent and clean and tidy example of a rare reel this one. even comes with threadlines on both spools. please see my other listings of hardy and other vintage fishing items this week.

Rare Abu Ambassadeur 5000c 4 screw model. foot number 34686. Rare. Vintage ambassadeur 5000c, 4 screw version. foot number 34686. a super chance to add to your vintage reel collection here with this very early ambassadeur dating from the 1960's. Superb working order. Still a great smooth reel to fish with but probably destined for the cabinet. Lovely chrome sits well against the black side plates and handle, smooth clutch and tough gearing allow you to play your catch, whilst the stainless bearings allow for some smooth casting. Dual tension control aids casting too whatever the conditions or lure size. The chrome is in very good clean condition, the plates have had scattered wear sympathetically touched in to avoid future issues. Once again a great reel to fish or collect.
