Vintage Wood Brass Iron Fishing Reel
This old reel is in as found condition from a shed clearance. I know very little about reels hence all the photographs. It turns ok but is a little tight probably from lack of use. It does not click when turning. Timber part of the reel measures just over 2 1/4 inches in diameter. Bottom part is brass and back part is iron. There is a small crack above both winders and a little chip missing from back of one of them( see photo) I cannot see a makers name on it. Here we have for auction a 5 1/2" Allcock Nottingham sea fishing reel. Model 5130A in the 1915 Allcock catalogue. This reel is in an absolutely beautiful condition complete with bulbos ebonite handles set on cupped brass plates, deep recessed centre spool with brass plate& large steel butterfly nut, thick cut brass to the starback, brass flange& backplate, copper brass calliper, steel offset pawl and pawl gear. This quality reel has a very strong optional check that when switched over sounds a nice firm click with a good chime from the brass. With the check off the spool turns nice& smooth on the turn and one good spin will see the spool return many revolutions with absolutely no wobble! Defiantly one of the better examples I have seen, this reel is solid and could easily be used for fishing once again! Stamped to the heel ... moreof the foot with the Allcock oval logo.
