Indeed. I have used them myself and found them very reliable– I still keep one as a spare in my tackle box! Intrepid made two versions of the Rimfly reel with this being the later Regular model c1970/80 with a 3½ inch diameter spool and weighs 200 grams when loaded with line. It is in good working condition. Though has had some of the dark grey enamel worn away around the rims. The black bakelite handle, on the front, is in good nick. It has a permanent ratchet, that works in both directions, which makes a very satisfying noise when a fish strips line of the reel at speed! The interior ... moreshows little sign of wear but have given it a good service anyway with everything in good working order. The spool is extracted by depressing a small lever on the edge of the centre on the front of the reel. And withdrawing. It is loaded with a sinking line, that appears in pretty good condition, of about weight 6/7. Please see my photographs. The reel was made in England by Hardy Bros. for LL Bean, I believe around the mid to late 1990s. Structurally, it is almost the same as a Hardy Marquis 7 Disc reel. It has a 3 5/8 in. spool diameter, with a 3/4 in. inner width, and a total weight of 5.6 oz. The reel is rated for 6 and 7 weight fly lines. It has an offset-gear disc drag system, with a spring supported steel pawl that produces a sweet clicker sound similar to a spring and pawl reel. The pawl can be disengaged if you want a quieter reel. Hardy Sovereign 5/6/7 fly reel serial numbered 1st year 1990
I bought this Hardy Sovereign 5/6/7 fly reel new in the Spring of 1990 when it was first released. And it is one of the original 1000 serial numbered reels. It has been a great companion on many trout adventures over the past 24 years, and has been lovingly cared for, as the pictures show. It is now lined with an Orvis WF6F line and probably 100 yards of 25 lb. backing. The spool spins freely with no rubbing. The drag is as strong and smooth as it was when new, and is easily switched from left to right hand by the flip of a very clever switch inside. The original Hardy instruction sheet is included. The original black leather case is still in fine condition, with a few small scrapes in the leather that a bit of black shoe polish should hide. The last picture shows a few small scrapes on the drag knob when you blow up the picture. These scrapes ... moredidn't show on the first picture. A beautiful piece of Bauer engineering. This model reel(the Lohr) ran to 1400 reels and sold out quickly. That was that and no more were made. Barbara McKenzie who. With her husband, owns the Bauer company, tells me that they get calls from people who really want to get their hands on the Lohr model, but those who own them do not want to part with them! This is a large arbor reel#420 of a run of#1400. It will comfortably accommodate any fly line from 5wt to 7wt with space for sufficient backing. The reel was used only once by a woman who thought it would be fun to take up fly fishing on streams in Alaska; it was, until she fell into one. Tibor made very few of these outstanding reels and this one is serial number 32. This top of the line machined, anodized cork disk drag fly reel will hold 120 yards of 20 pound backing with a 6 weight line. Set for right hand retrieve but can be reversed. Comes with reel case. The reel is in very nice shape. There are a couple of little finish nicks along the edge of the back plate. And anodizing flaws where the foot is attached to the frame.
