The reel is in excellent condition, and appears to have been used ... morevery little. Check the pictures for details on condition. The reel is 3 3/4 inches in diameter. Reel and spools were made in England in the early 1980s. At the time, they were a reasonable salmon and light saltwater reel, with a caliper drag system. Both the reel and spare spool are set up with about 170 yards of 30 pound test dacron with spliced loop ends(but no fly lines) The spare spool(see the last 3 pictures) appears to have had its rim, right at the handle, bent in slightly, and repaired leaving some plier marks on the rim. This is noticeable on close inspection and you can see these in the last 2 pictures. These England-made Scientific Anglers reels were very nice reels and will still catch fish. I have too many fly reels that I don't use, so I am thinning the herd. I will be listing some other fly reels this week, so take a look at my other auctions. I accept only Paypal. Structurally, it is almost the same as a Hardy Marquis 7 Disc reel. It has a 3 5/8 in. spool diameter, with a 3/4 in. inner width, and a total weight of 5.6 oz. The reel is rated for 6 and 7 weight fly lines. It has an offset-gear disc drag system, with a spring supported steel pawl that produces a sweet clicker sound similar to a spring and pawl reel. The pawl can be disengaged if you want a quieter reel. But I believe it's been around for a while! The ... morereason I said VINTAGE in the listing is because the cursive/scroll writing on the reel looks different from the newer"Flyweight" reels from Hardy, but I really don't know for sure! Anyhow. The brand of this reel is HOUSE OF HARDY and it was made in England. It looks to be in excellent shape, which doesn't surprise me, as my father always kept everything in pristine condition! The reel says in cursive, Made by House of Hardy, England" and it also says, The Flyweight" There is a peach- coloured line wrapped around the reel. It comes with a blue. Vinyl-type zip case which also says House of Hardy on the top. It looks like there is a small piece of vinyl coming off from the case, near the back of the case, where the zipper begins. Please see photos! He also attached a little tag on the outside of the case and it says"2 WT" So, I'm not really sure what that means. Maybe the line is a 2 weight line? Inside the case is a little pamphlet/paperwork from House of Hardy that talks about how to care for your reel. Etc. My dad was a big fly-fisherman. He fished in rivers. Mostly in Connecticut, Maine and Montana. He'd be happy to know this was going to one of his fellow fly-fishermen! EARLY VTG ORVIS CFO IV Screw Back Fly Reel W/ SPARE SPOOL England Hardy
This is one of the earliest Hardy made CFO IV's with the screw back spindle. It is in excellent working condition and has one of the nicest. Smoothest clicks that I have ever heard on a reel. When I acquired it, the screw for the spindle was loose, which explains some of the scrapes on the inside of the spool, but I have completely gone over the reel and lubricated it with Hot Sauce. It is now in perfect working order and I will guarantee it or your money back. The spare spool had a tiny piece of the inside lip broken off, I filed the sharp corners so that it would not grab the fly line(shown in last pic) Works perfect. Shipping is $6.50 to the lower 48.

There is very little cosmetic wear or tear evident about the reel or spools' rimmed edges and face given its obvious age, with no major chips, gouges, dents, dings, rubs or scrapes noticed. The reel foot still appears straight and tight with no signs of damage or abuse witnessed, and a close inspection of the reel's interior confirms all pieces of the adjustable dual-check click-pawl drag still perfectly intact with no evidence of excessive wear or tear found. I'm auctioning an Orvis Battenkill Ultralight Disc 5/6 fly reel with spare spool. This is the Made in England edition which is no longer available from Orvis. The reel is designed for 5 or 6 weight lines and has a capacity of 120 yds of 20# dacron backing(5-wt) or 100 yds(6-wt) The reel is loaded with a Rio Selective Trout WF5F line and the spare spool has an Orvis WF5F line. The reel is in excellent condition with very minimal wear visible on the rim while the spare spool is in pristine condition. The reel is set up for left-hand retrieve but can be easily changed to right-hand. The original Orvis soft case. Instructions, and box are included for the reel. The reel has a couple teeny-tiny scuffs and minor paint wear on the top edges but remains in super clean condition. The inside is super clean and nice. Scientific Anglers System Two 2 89 8/9 Fly Reel with Spare Spool, England Made
This is a vintage Scientific Anglers System Two model 89 fly reel. With spare spool. The reel is in excellent condition, and appears to have been used very little. Check the pictures for details on condition. The reel is 3 3/4 inches in diameter. Reel and spools were made in England in the early 1980s. At the time, they were a reasonable salmon and light saltwater reel, with a caliper drag system. Both the reel and spare spool are set up with about 170 yards of 30 pound test dacron with spliced loop ends(but no fly lines) The spare spool(see the last 3 pictures) appears to have had its rim, right at the handle, bent in slightly, and repaired leaving some plier marks on the rim. This is noticeable on close inspection and you can see these in the last 2 pictures. These England-made Scientific Anglers reels were very nice reels and will still ... morecatch fish. This reel was Made in England by HARDY BROS of Alnwick(although bearing the ORVIS name) Although this reel has been used. It remains in superb mechanical condition. There is some honest paint wear that is visible in the photographs to the backplate. I am supplying with the reel a spare spool and the original ORVIS suede/sheepskin reel pouch. The perforated drum helps reduce the weight of this reel considerably. So much so that(with the backing line) it weighs just 128grms!
