Orvis Battenkill Multiplier 8/9 Disc Drag Fly Reel Excellent Cond.
Up for auction is an Orvis Battenkill Multiplier 8/9 standard arbor fly reel made in England. The spool maybe easily and quickly removed to change right/left hand retrieve. The reel is made for 8 or 9 wt. line. It is a multiplier reel. Meaning that for each turn of the reel handle the reel turns more than once. There seem to be a couple of minor, hard for me to see scratches on the reel and it seems function perfectly. It is a heavy duty reel that only weighs 5 ozs. I have lubed it and comes with a full reel of backing,fly line and tippet. We have a smoke-free home. It has no case, but does have the original box and instructions. No dings or scratches on the blank and only very very slight color to the cork. The reel is also like new and comes with 150 yards of 30lb backing and floating Orvis WF8 line. The 8/9 Disc is a standard arbor reel, with a wide spool that is 3 3/8 inches in diameter. The reel weight is about 5 1/2 oz. model, and will hold about 220 yds. of 20 lb. backing with a WF8F line or 170 yds. with a WF9F. It has a offset, compression gear disc drag system. The reel was made in England for Orvis by British Fly Reels. The reel has seen modest use. And remains in very good condition. There are areas of slight finish wear. The reel works nicely, with a strong drag. It is set for left hand retrieve, and can be easily converted to right, merely by inverting the center gear on the spindle so the"R" marked side is up. For sale is an older model Orvis Battenkill Disc 7/8 fly reel in its soft case with a spare spool also in its soft case. The reel and the spool were both made in England by BFR(British Fly Reels) of Falmouth. England, who also made some of the Hardy Bros. reels. Both the reel and spare spool are spooled with backing and line. The spare spool has NY-F 5 WF-F line but I don’t know what the spool on the reel has on it. Mechanically the reel is in excellent condition. Cosmetically. As you can see in the pictures, there is some rash on the edges but nothing else. The Orvis badge is missing from the center of the spare spool. The cases are in excellent condition. Up for auction here is an Orvis Battenkill 3/4 Disc Drag Reel. This little reel is in great shape. Its got a few scratches from use over the years, but mechanically its in perfect shape. The disc drag works perfectly and is ultra smooth. It'll let you put the hammer down on those big trout when you need to. Comes with a Cortland 444SL WF4F line also in great shape. I loved using this on a tiny 3 weight rod for small trout streams- its a great tool, a real old school yet still modern piece of fishing equipment.
