Of sturdy construction from machined bar stock aluminum, and recommended for use with 7 and 8 wt. lines. This is the first version of the DXR, which was made in the U.S.A. allegedly by Lamson. It is similar to a Lamson LP-3, but with the drag system of an Orvis Battenkill 7/8 Disc reel. The reel has a soft click on the retrieve, with a harder click on the outgo(pawl can be easily disengaged for quieter reel operation) It is set up for left hand retrieve, but can be changed to right(flipping over the center gear on the spindle reverses the drag direction) The reel is well used. With ample rock rash along the back rim of the frame. The Orvis emblem is ... moremissing from the back plate. One spool has a shallow rim dent, but it doesn't affect the reel operation. The reel works fine with both spools. I have set the drag range at what I think is the best setting. It is a bit strong at the low end, so not recommended for the lightest tippets. These drag systems can be adjusted for different ranges, and I will include instructions from Orvis, should the buyer not like the current range. One spool is lined with backing and a WF-7-F Scientific Anglers Mastery Steelhead taper line. While the other has backing and a Rio WF-7-F/S Density Compensated Type 3 sink tip line. Both are older lines that may have some life left in them. Shipping is available to the U.S. and Canada. The reel is machined from bar-stock aircraft aluminum, with a caliper disc drag system. It has a diameter of about 3.75 inches, and a weight of about 7.75 oz. Line capacity is listed at 250 yds. of 20 lb. backing with a WF8 line, 225 yds. with a WF9. The cosmetics are excellent. With only a few little nicks along the edges. Reel works well, with a smooth, full range drag. It is spooled with a small amount of backing, set up for left hand retrieve. The drag direction can be switched for right hand retrieve by flipping over the clutch plate that sits atop the large gear on the spindle. The AL 7/8 is fully machined from bar stock aircraft aluminum. And anodized a bright gold finish. It has a wide large arbored spool, with a center disc drag that has a star drag adjustment wheel. The listed diameter is 3.5 in. with a weight of 8.5 oz. It holds about 200 yards of 20 lb. backing with a WF8F line. The reel shows normal finish wear. But still looks good. Retrieve is smooth, with a still strong drag. It is spooled with backing and an unknown 8 or 9 wt. floating, weight forward taper line. Line shows some wear, but still looks usable. This is an old older Fly Fishing Reel. It measures 2 7/8" Diameter and is Black in color with heavy line. It is in good shape but has some scuffs/scratches. Die cast aluminum reel, with a 3.75 in. diameter and a weight of 5.5 oz. It is rated for 7 and 8 weight fly lines(listed capacity of 145 yds. of 20 lb. backing with a WF7F line) The reel has a roller bearing clutch, with a multi disc, center drag system of cork, teflon, and stainless steel washers. Retrieve is silent, with a nice click on the outgo. Default retrieve direction is left hand wind, and it can be easily changed to right. This appears to be a unfished reel with box and paperwork. Ross Big Game 4 Reel in Good Used condition with original pouch. Box and all paperwork. Reel has been sent in once for servicing only to Ross in Montrose, CO. The reel is the precursor to the Momentum Reel and has been fished some in salt but mostly in fresh water in Alaska for salmon. Reel works perfectly, and I would rate it as excellent if it were not for the boat rash on the body of the reel that I've tried to show in the photos. These reels are total workhorses with excellent drags that will hold up to any salmon, baby tarpon, big bones, etc and not let you down.
