Other than evidence that this CFO IV has been mounted on a reel seat. You would be hard pressed to find any other imperfections. This is one clean reel and comes loaded with an unknown floating line. These timeless English made reels go great with bamboo or modern rods and have the sweetest clicking sound of any reel and are good for a 4,5 or 6 wt line. Shipping is free to the lower 48.

Orvis. CFO IV, fly reel with two spare spools. This is the 3 ¼” x ¾” heavily ventilated reel that was originally designed by Stan Bogdan for Orvis. This particular one is one of the older reels that were made in England for Orvis. With the adjustable drag switch on the rear plate that works as it should when turned. One can change the direction of the spool drive on this exposed rim reel by flipping the cam on the inside to move the pressure onto the other spring. This IV model can handle a WFF 6 line, and it has a double-sided nickel silver two-screw line guard and an aluminum full-length foot. The spare spools fit perfectly, and there are NO bent spool rims as all three spools spin beautifully. Orvis CFO IV Made in England - VF Collectable condition
The reel and spools were made for Orvis in England by the legendary Hardy Company. This vintage reel has the two-hole foot. The older style click and pawl drag system, with the straight bar which holds the line guard, it was made in the 1980s. and is approximately 3 3/8” in diameter. The body of the reel is in excellent working condition and the finish is very fine too. Both spools are in most excellent condition, not showing any wear. This CFO IV model is ideal for lightweight fly rods using a 6- 8- weight fly line. It comes with a dual compartment fleece lined case. The case is in very good condition but has two pieces of masking tape attached to the bottom to identity the line that was spooled on the reels. This can be eaily removed but may leave some residue. EARLY VTG ORVIS CFO IV Screw Back Fly Reel W/ SPARE SPOOL England Hardy
This is one of the earliest Hardy made CFO IV's with the screw back spindle. It is in excellent working condition and has one of the nicest. Smoothest clicks that I have ever heard on a reel. When I acquired it, the screw for the spindle was loose, which explains some of the scrapes on the inside of the spool, but I have completely gone over the reel and lubricated it with Hot Sauce. It is now in perfect working order and I will guarantee it or your money back. The spare spool had a tiny piece of the inside lip broken off, I filed the sharp corners so that it would not grab the fly line(shown in last pic) Works perfect. Shipping is $6.50 to the lower 48.

The worst wear is on the one corner of the reel face side as you can see in somenof the pictures. There is a series of little chips in the green finish. It is not all missing. CLASSIC HARDY BROTHERS MADE ORVIS CFO IV FLY REEL BID WITH CONFIDENCE YOUR COMPLETE SATISFACTION IS GUARANTEED! Early vintage Orvis CFO IV single action. Spring and click pawl fly reel made for Orvis by Hardy Brothers of Alnwick, England- circa 1974. Three hole ported reel foot. Reel is 3 and 1/4 of an inch in diameter by 1 and 3/16ths of an inch wide(excluding handle and drag knob) and weighs 3.7 ounces. Most suitable for 5-8 weight lines/rods, capacity- WF6F plus 100 yards of 20lb Micron backing. Spool opening is 3/4 of an inch wide. Reel is in good condition mechanically: screws and rivets are all tight, handle is straight, uncracked and turns smoothly, spool is tight without any noticeable warping or wobbles. Spool rim and edge show considerable wear and there was a flat spot at 5 oclock that I repaired. There is obvious surface loss ... moreor rash from the reel not having been dried completely prior to prolonged storage effecting approximately 60 percent of the finish on the back of the frame and the frame edge as well as the inside surface of the bottom pillar. The original nickel silver 2-way line guide had several nasty line grooves in it so I replaced it with a new one. Reel can be fished with right or left hand retrieve by simply reversing the click pawls. Minimal"drag" regulation may be applied via a plastic knob on the reverse which causes tension springs to exert pressure on the click pawls. Additional drag pressure may be applied manually by palming the spool rim. Includes a very nice generic(not Hardy or Orvis product) cloth and nylon, zippered, padded reel case- not shown. A classic early vintage Hardy made Orvis IV that is admittedly not the most eye appealing example of this very popular collectable I have ever sold but still quite scarce with lots of fishable years left in it. For Auction.very nice 1970's era vintage Orvis CFO IV Reel with Orvis carrying felt bag. Item is used. But in very good shape. There is some edge wear and minor oxidation, but the reel is solid and mechanically sound. It comes with WF-8-S Orvis Wonderline installed. This is a great collectible reel for the collector.
