The threading for the spindle is conventional right hand turn(clockwise to tighten) which I believe means it is for a right hand retrieve reel. Please be sure the configuration of this spool matches your reel. As I believe the spool may not be compatible with other generations of The Perfect 3 5/8 In. reels. I think this is for a 1970s era reel that has the cone shaped housing on the winding plate, with no retaining screw on the spindle end. The spool is in good condition. The Uniqua" fly reel, 3 1/8" wide, trout size, Right Hand Wind, ebonite crank handle, smooth full brass foot, spring and click pawl with regulator mechanism, single action, narrow drum, brass fittings indicating that it was made prior to WWII, nickel silver"telephone" two screw spool latch cover, retaining most of its gray gun metal leaded finish, in fine and well cared for condition. the reel can be reversed to a left hand wind by inverting the click pawl that engages the gear. Engraved inside the reel are the initials"PJ" being the Hardy employee who made this reel. This vintage Uniqua would be a welcome addition to the Hardy Bros. Ltd. fly reel collection.

The hardy neoprene case is included but not original to the St George Jr reel) The only flaws on the reel are little marks on the reel foot from mounting it on several slide band reel seats. Otherwise it is like new. In excellent condition. The fly line is a white Royal Wulff Triangle Taper 3wt line with J3 coating that has been shortened to 60' to allow for more backing room on the little reel. The line has been used a few times on different reels but is in excellent condition. The large welded loop was recently removed and a loop was whipped on with olive silk thread and superglue. Vintage Hardy Super Silex 3 1/2" Engraved "JBW" Salmon Reel RHW circa 1930s
Offered for sale is a Vintage Hardy Bros. Ltd. Super Silex 3 1/2" salmon reel, with"J.B.W. engraved on the inside of the reel. J.B.W. stands for Joe Wallace who worked for Hardy Bros. We believe that this reel is the reel first released by Hardy in 1928 and has a circa of the early 1930s. The reel as specified by Hardy has the style, make and size engraved on the outside with the Patent numbers 24245& 9261. As seen in the photos, it has twin ebonite crank handles, jeweled spindle bearings, ivorine rim mounted casting trigger, rear quadrant half moon weight indicator, a ribbed brass foot, and a perforated spool, rim mounted regulator wheel with hexagon nut on top. The spool also has a quick release alloy sliding stud to release the spool, this transitional model is fitted with a second smaller spring to operate the optional check ... moreplate, with a long spur arm to the check plate, this reel being a transitional model circa 1930(see page 278 of J. Drewett book) the reel being in fine honest original condition, with no damage or cracks, running very free, retaining the silvery patina. This reel would be one of the highlights af any Hardy/Silex collection- this example is an original alloy model that retains a very good original finish and is clean inside and mechanically spot on.
