Up for auction is an early Hardy Uniqua 2 7/8 fly reel. From research I have done. I believe the reel was manufactured between 1919 and 1923. I obtained this information from The Classic Fly Rod Forum web site. The reel is complete and in good smooth working condition. Cosmetically the pictures should do the talking. Reel has all the original inscriptions by Hardy Brothers which are perfectly visible. Reel works fine with no rubbing when the spool is turned but does have a bit of movement on the spindle when laying flat and pulling on the winding knob towards you. This reel is otherwise in great shape for being so old which you can see in the pictures. Offered for sale is a vintage Hardy Bros. Ltd. The Uniqua" fly reel, 3 1/8" wide, trout size, Right Hand Wind, ebonite crank handle, smooth full brass foot, spring and click pawl with regulator mechanism, single action, narrow drum, brass fittings indicating that it was made prior to WWII, nickel silver"telephone" two screw spool latch cover, retaining most of its gray gun metal leaded finish, in fine and well cared for condition. the reel can be reversed to a left hand wind by inverting the click pawl that engages the gear. Engraved inside the reel are the initials"PJ" being the Hardy employee who made this reel. This vintage Uniqua would be a welcome addition to the Hardy Bros. Ltd. fly reel collection.

Vintage Hardy Uniqua 3 5/8" Trout Fly Reel+Line RHW (reversable)
Offered for sale is a vintage/classic Hardy Bros. Ltd. The UNIQUA fly reel, set for right hand wind(reversible to a left hand wind) with the classic Hardy Telephone latch, the spool being 1" wide(perfect for trout fishing) with a smooth brass foot, retaining almost all of it's gun leaded gray finish, with an ebonite crank handle, marked DUPLICATED MARK II, with a narrow drum, spring and click pawl, single action, with brass fittings( circa pre-WWII as most of the brass was appropriated for shell casings) our best guess being that the circa is 1930s, with sinking fly line probably weight 5 to 7. 1920-23 2 7/8" Hardy Uniqua Fly Reel Archuleta EXC Mechanical
Lots of leading on this early 20s Uniqua. Single Check. I bought this in spring. The pawl post was a little loose. I sent to Mr Bill Archuleta- one of the best vintage fly reel restorers today. He replaced post. I also asked him to provide me with a spare spring and a spare pawl(included in auction) This reel is ready to fish. I never ended up lining it. Initials are inscribed on side of reel and bottom of reel foot. See front plate photo. PMD is visible, and PMD is inscribed a 2nd time on front plate, but so lightly it can barely be seen. On bottom of foot, so light can barely be seen. The heavy PMD on side plate is into the leading only. Pillar area has some line rub, see photo.
