It has a custom loop. If so desired. You can reverse the line being that it is a Double Taper. I used this reel several times for the steelhead on the Salmon River in NY. It performed flawlessly. It does have a small scrape in the finish on the spool(see photos) The line has been fished less than 6 times. A lot of life left. The Lamson Litespeed: A true treasure of a reel. Not the prettiest one out there. But the best performing- from size, to weight, to toughness, and of course, the unmatched drag system. The Lamson Reel design objectives were clear: 1. Reduce physical weight 2. Achieve mechanical simplicity 3. Maximize large arbor benefit 4. Utilize superior materials 5. Create the world’s best drag system. How do you reduce the weight of the reel? There were a number possible approaches to choose from: reduce overall size; reduce material usage; use lighter materials; create a lighter structural ... moreformat; reduce the weight and number of components. Obviously. To build a large arbor reel, the first option was not a practical consideration. But each other directive held promise. I purchased the reel in Sept 2012. New. It has been gently used and well cared for. Comes with blank warranty card. Owners guide, original box, neoprene case, sticker and 30 lb Dacron backing. There are 3 tiny scratches that are all in the first photo. The spare spool is the Hard Alox generation before the reel. These are interchangeable. It has some impact rash and slight bend in the palming rim. I bought this on eBay. I filed the bottom side of the palming rim at the bend to keep it from rubbing on the reel frame. Now it is perfectly functional and smooth. It also comes with backing. Dacron. Likely 30 lb test, bit I'm not sure. There is nothing else included with the spool. There are a few very minor surface scratches, scrapes, and light rubs noticed about reel and spool's rimmed edges and face, but overall, the Hard-Alox finish appears to have held up exceptionally well. A quick testing of the reel's highly adjustable and fully-sealed conical-friction drag confirms smooth increasing tension throughout its entire range. With no stutter, stick, or hesitation noted. And a thorough inspection of the reel's interior confirms all internal parts still perfectly intact and fully functional. With no excessive residue build up, tarnishing or oxidization of component pieces found. The reel foot still appears straight and tight with no signs of warp or excessive wear. Hi All- I have a used Lamson Litespeed 1.5 reel for sale. The condition of the reel is very good to excellent. The reel works just as well as the first day I bought it and still looks great. And shows absolutely no corrosion(This reel was never used on salt water) This was my trout travel fly reel and there are some very very minor nicks and scratches on the reel, most of which you can see in the pics(look at the bottom of the reel and on the black drag knob for an example of the nicks) The reel comes with the original Lamson pouch as well as backing and 4wt Rio Grand or Gold(I can't remember which one- all you need to know is that reel was amazing as a backcountry trough set up) I will throw in free USPS priority shipping to anywhere in the USA. Used Lamson Litespeed Size 1.0 fly fishing reel spooled with a Rio Selective Trout weight forward 3-weight floating fly line and backing. Offered for sale by Mayfly Outfitters. Combined 2014 Retail is $373.95. This is a wonderful reel. Strong and light. This reel balances extremely well on modern light-line graphite rods. Now discontinued, the Litespeed 1.0 size is increasingly difficult to find as Lamson declined to bring this size back to market in the much more expensive Litespeed series IV. The Rio Selective Trout line is an excellent match to the reel and likely will work quite well with most fly rods we would recommend in 3-weight.
