The 123 size CFO reel is hard to come by and is one of the most collectible models. Unlike m ost other English-made CFOs th ese were machin ed from bar stock aluminum providing unsurpasse d lightweight durability and performance. Orvis CFO III fly reel with extra spool. This was made in England by Hardy Bros. in the 1970's. Both spools are loaded with 5 weight line. One floating, one intermediate. Classic rivet-back design. No dents or cracks, some minor scratches and paint loss. Excellent working condition, smooth action, great clicking sound. Please feel free to email me with any questions you may have. This auction is for a rare vintage 1978 Orvis CFO II fly reel with extra spool. This CFO is the smaller version with the screw through the spindle. The reel works well. My father was the only owner of this reel. The spools have line stickers ~ Orvis WF4F HGF and Orvis WF5S. I am not sure if this is the actual line that is on there. Besides cleaning the reel probably could use some paint and oil if so desired. This would make an outstanding addition to a collection or a tackle box. Check out the pictures! Rim control, click spring and pawl fly reel made for Orvis by Hardy Brothers of Alnwick, England. Reel is 3 inches in diameter by 1 1/16 inches wide(excluding handle and drag knob) and weighs 3.1 ounces. Most suitable for 3 to 5 weight lines/rods, capacity: WF4F plus 225 feet of 15lb Micron backing. Reel is in superb used condition both mechanically and cosmetically. Spool is sound and very tight. Handle is straight, un-cracked and turns smoothly. There is no surface corrosion internally or externally. Spool edge and frame rim wear is very minimal. Other than a few very small surface scuffs and scratches on the reel foot, this reel ... morepresents more like a display reel than one that has actually been fished to any extent. This is an early vintage reel without the optional nickle silver line guide. Reel can be fished with right or left hand retrieve by simply reversing the click pawls. Classic spring and click pawl fly reel made by Hardy Brothers of Alnwick, England(circa 1978) Reel is 3 and 1/2 inches in diameter by 1 3/8 inches wide(excluding drag knob and handle) and weighs 4.0 ounces. Most suitable for 6 to 10 weight lines/rods, capacity: WF9F plus 200yds of 20lb Dacron backing. Exceptional condition both mechanically and cosmetically. Spool is sound and tight- no wobbles or warping. Handle is straight, uncracked and turns smoothly. Frame edge and spool rim wear is significantly lighter than one would typically expect to see in most used reels of this vintage. There are a few small dings here and there ... morethat are hardly worth mentioning but I am anyway just for the record. Light scratches on top of the reel foot and general overall fading of the finish- after all the reel is over 35 years old! Orvis CFO 3 20th Anniversary Reel Vintage 1991 Made in England
I've had this reel since 1991 when I bought it new. It is in excellent. Maybe mint condition. Here is some info on the history of the reel: 1991 The CFO VI is once again reintroduced. At this point the 123. III, IV and VI are available. A new anniversary edition is available, to commemorate the 20th year of the CFO reels. These reels were machined from bar stock aluminum, and had a platinum finish. This edition was a size III, and was designed to accept spools from standard reels. I recommend this reel for a 4 or 5 weight rod. It is easily set up for right or left hand retrieve. It includes the original Orvis reel case. Very collectable. This is my last of 4 I've slowly sold over the years. I hate to get rid of it. But I'm just not using it at this point.

Orvis first offered these in 1972 manufactured in England by Hardy for two decades. I have for sale a near mint Vintage early 70's screw spindle Made in England Orvis CFO V with suede pouch. It appears to have been placed on a rod at some point but do not know if it was ever used. It is in remarkable condition for its age. Couple very small nicks on frame as seen in pics. Very hard to see. The sound is incredible and the inside of reel is mint also. Springs seem to be in great condition also. When I purchased it for my collection the drag was in the off position. Which is the way they should all be stored, just like the CFO lll I also have for sale. This reel was in my collection under glass display. Vintage Orvis CFO 123 Fly Reel Made in England This item is in excellent to mint condition. It is a pre-owned item that shows no signs of use or wear. I purchased this item new in the late 1990's. However. I do not remember if I ever used this reel on the water or not. It does have line and backing spooled on it but it shows no wear on the aluminum reel foot. I am not sure of the line type or weight. I may have only used it for casting as I was a casting instructor at that time. This is a terrific example of an Orvis CFO 123 reel(now called the Orvis CFO II) The reel measures 2 7/8" in diameter and is sized for a 3-5 wt. fly line.
