Design is unlike anything previously or since produced by Hardy sold under their own name. Reel is 3 7/16 inches in diameter by 1 1/16 inches wide. Cast of a newly developed magnesium alloy the reel is extremely light weighing a mere 3.1 ounches- more than 30% lighter than comparible sized Hardy reels using traditional cast aluminum alloys. Most suitable for 5-7 weight rods. Reel is in good mechanical condition and has all its original parts with no loose rivets or screws. Cosmetically I would rate this reel as just fair to good- it has obviously been well used. Unfortunately, the finish Hardy used plagued this series of reels during its entire production. Reel can be fished with right or left hand retrieve by simply inverting the single click pawl and reversing the single screw, double prong chromium line guard. Minimal"drag" may be applied via a plastic knob on the reverse which works on a spring that regulates the pressure on the single click pawl. Terrific clicking sound. Includes extra spool plus original vinyl reel case both in reasonable decent condition- there is no foam insert in the case. Former owner's name and phone number scratched into bottom of reel foot. The reel foot still appears straight and tight with no signs of damage or abuse witnessed, and a close inspection of the reel's interior confirms all pieces of the adjustable, fully-sealed disc-drag still perfectly intact with no evidence of excessive wear or tear found. I'm auctioning an Orvis Mid Arbor IV reel and spare spool. Suitable for line size 7 or 8. Both the reel and spare spool are loaded with approximately 100 yds of 20# dacron backing. The reel has been lightly used and the spare spool has never been fished, though it had a line loaded on it. Both are in excellent condition with the exception of a scratch/nick on the rim of the reel. It's not a dent and it's just cosmetic. The reel is set up for left-hand retrieve but is easily changed to right-hand operation. The original green Orvis pouch for the reel and blue Orvis bag for the spare spool are included, as are the original boxes. As you can see in the photos the name has started to wear but you can still make out all the words. Otherwise it has a couple places of light wear just around the edge. It has a extra spool it is black in color but it is same as the original spool. As you can see in the photos the extra spool is in like new condition and has a full spool of new line not sure of the size or brand of the line.The tag on the inside of the original spool reads Wonderline Generation-3 WF6 TROUT. This is a quick listing for a Vintage Orvis Battenkill Mid Arbor IV. It is used but in acceptable condition for it's intended purpose which is catching Fish. This is not a safe-queen it has been used and it's battle scarred but it seems to function fine. If you are concerned about the cosmetic condition you might want to buy new. I tried to show the various dings and knocks on the reel. Everything seems to work. I don't know how tight the drag should be but it does function. This has some Yellow line on it. I don't fly fish so I can't tell you anything about it. You should probably replace whatever is on the reel anyway with the age being undetermined. I purchased this reel new and the line was spooled at the shop. The line is Wonderline Generation 3 WF6F. I placed the reel on a rod and dry casted in my yard once. But never fished it. This is the same reel as the Battenkill Mid Arbor II. It was called the Pro Guide in its first year or two of production, before switching to the Battenkill name. The reel is machined from bar-stock aluminum, with a hard anodized finish. It is a mid-arbor design, with a center line, glass composite disc drag system. The reel is a perfect size for use with 3 and 4 weight lines. The reel has seen some use. But remains in good condition. There are no issues with the mechanical condition, it works great.
