Ross Gunnison G3 (5-6 Weight) Fly Fishing Reel with Extra Spool
Ross Gunnison G3 which has fished#4/5/6 lines from Maine. Vermont, New York, Wyoming, Montana and Idaho for close to 20 years. It is a wonderful reel to fish on 7 1/2' 9' cane and graphite rods. The drag is smooth and can really crank down if one so wishes. It's a very excellent reel to palm. The spindle is tight. No wobbling. It's had one owner- me. Of sturdy construction from machined bar stock aluminum, and recommended for use with 7 and 8 wt. lines. This is the first version of the DXR, which was made in the U.S.A. allegedly by Lamson. It is similar to a Lamson LP-3, but with the drag system of an Orvis Battenkill 7/8 Disc reel. The reel has a soft click on the retrieve, with a harder click on the outgo(pawl can be easily disengaged for quieter reel operation) It is set up for left hand retrieve, but can be changed to right(flipping over the center gear on the spindle reverses the drag direction) The reel is well used. With ample rock rash along the back rim of the frame. The Orvis emblem is ... moremissing from the back plate. One spool has a shallow rim dent, but it doesn't affect the reel operation. The reel works fine with both spools. I have set the drag range at what I think is the best setting. It is a bit strong at the low end, so not recommended for the lightest tippets. These drag systems can be adjusted for different ranges, and I will include instructions from Orvis, should the buyer not like the current range. One spool is lined with backing and a WF-7-F Scientific Anglers Mastery Steelhead taper line. While the other has backing and a Rio WF-7-F/S Density Compensated Type 3 sink tip line. My father was the only owner of this reel. The spools have line stickers ~ Orvis WF4F HGF and Orvis WF5S. I am not sure if this is the actual line that is on there. Sage 5400 Fly Fishing Reel and Extra Spool NR
The Sage 5400 reels and spools are machined from solid Aluminum bar stock and have a heavy anodized finish. Thicker than most. They were designed to hold up to saltwater use. The drag system is cork to spool. As you can see the spool is compressed against the cork drag surface through the use of a draw bar and adjustment knob. Nice click both in and out, which is what I want in a reel. I prefer the Sage adjustment knob as well, which has a safety device to stop it from going into the water. There is no screw lock to drop in the rocks when you change spools. The reel is finished with a gold anodized drag knob and a rosewood handle. My reels are set for left hand retrieve, but can go RHW. Rim control feature too. Both reel and spool are vented and have counter-balances. This reel is used but not abused and has been well maintained on as needed ... morebasis. The reel and spool are in very good condition with minimal scuffs. One spool has a mist green WF5 Rio fly line(I think it is Rio Gold, but not positive) that is in reasonable condition. The other spool will be shipped empty(despite the line shown in the picture) This reel has a super smooth drag that has micro-fine adjustment even in the light drag range which sets it apart from most reels in its class(most I've tried have only a couple of drag settings in the light drag range. Which seems to be the most useful range for trout fishing on a 5/6 wt line and light tippet) Line is currently setup for left hand retrieve. For sale is a Dan Bailey fly reel with a 5wt. double taper Scientific Angler fly line. Included is an extra spool loaded with a sinking line. Weight forward. Reel is used as you can see in the photos. The spool, however, is unused although it came along on every fishing trip. I really don't recall ever using it. I had other rods I used with sinking lines. Abel Fly Fishing Reel Big Game 3 Plus Extra Spool
This is an Abel Big Game#3 fly fishing reel and spare spool(both with Abel reel briefs included) This reel was used on three saltwater trips. And the spool was lined but not ever fished. The spool looks new, and the reel is in EUC save for a small amount of boat rash(see photos) and some sticker residue that didn't want to come off for me on the foot. It was machined and anodized in the USA and is one of the finest big saltwater/Spey reels you could buy. It's been discontinued for some years now but you can still get spools and parts through the Abel company as needed. I have here an Abel TR light fly reel with an extra spool. These are in absolutely fantastic shape. The reel also has some Orvis Spring Creek WF-3-F on it. Comes with reel. Extra spool(did I say EXTRA SPOOL? Yes, I did) line and spool bags. This is a tiny reel for those guys that have toyed with the notion of a 1 wt, 2 wt or 3 wt rod. It's super high quality as you already know. Have one spool for flicking out gnats and black ants, and another spool for drifting some tiny, tiny beadhead nymphs when the stream conditions change. ORVIS Presentation EXR I FLY Fishing REEL + Extra SPOOL For 1-3 Line WT Rod Here we have a 1980s vintage Orvis Presentation EXR I fly reel with an extra spool. Called at the time by Orvis. The"world's most elegant fly reel" the Presentation series reels were made in Argentina, precision machined from bar stock aluminum, with a hard anodized black finish. The EXR versions like this one have the exposed palming rim with raised outer lip, giving them an appearance similar to their popular, and less pricey, CFO reel. The Orvis EXR I has a 2 7/8 in. diameter spool. And a reel weight of about 3 oz. The listed line capacity is 50 yds. of 20 lb. backing with a WF3F line. It has a spring and pawl drag system, utilizing 2 independent pawls controlled by tension from a coil spring loaded yoke. Either pawl can be engaged, one controlled ... moreby the heavy(marked H) spring, and the other by the light(L) spring. Turning the drag adjustment knob changes the spring tension on the pawls. This reel is set for left hand retrieve, with the light pawl engaged. For right hand retrieve, just flip both pawls over. Spool release and re-engagement is controlled by the button in the back of the frame. The reel is in very good condition. There are rubs on the reel foot. But not much else. It has a WF3F line and a little backing on it. I believe the peach colored line is an older Cortland 444 that you may wish to replace. The empty extra spool has a 3/4 inch sliver of finish worn off on the spool lip. The reel/spool combo comes with an Orvis drawstring bag and a cordoroy bag. The Orvis pouch has stains, and both bags could use a cleaning.
