The reel is in excellent condition, and appears to have been used ... morevery little. Check the pictures for details on condition. The reel is 3 3/4 inches in diameter. Reel and spools were made in England in the early 1980s. At the time, they were a reasonable salmon and light saltwater reel, with a caliper drag system. Both the reel and spare spool are set up with about 170 yards of 30 pound test dacron with spliced loop ends(but no fly lines) The spare spool(see the last 3 pictures) appears to have had its rim, right at the handle, bent in slightly, and repaired leaving some plier marks on the rim. This is noticeable on close inspection and you can see these in the last 2 pictures. These England-made Scientific Anglers reels were very nice reels and will still catch fish. I have too many fly reels that I don't use, so I am thinning the herd. I will be listing some other fly reels this week, so take a look at my other auctions. I accept only Paypal. It has the matte black finish and the tool free left/right hand retrieve conversion. The reel is of standard arbor design, with a 3 inch diameter and a weight of 4.4 oz. Scientific Anglers designated this model of the Light series of the System Two as a 6/7 line class reel, but I think the 2Ls run small for their ratings, and this reel will also work great with 4-5 weight lines,i actually had it on a 3 wt rod.The reel has a nice caliper stainless steel disc drag system. Still structurally and mechanically sound throughout. There are indeed some minor surface scratches, light scrapes, and polished rubs present about reel and spools' rimmed edges and face, but overall, the set's original finish appears to have held up incredibly well. A quick testing of the reel's circular plastic-spring and check drag confirms modest increasing tension throughout its adjustable range. With no stutter, stick, or hesitation noted, and a thorough inspection of the reel's interior confirms all internal parts still perfectly intact and fully functional, with no excessive residue build up, tarnishing, or oxidization of component pieces found. The line guard and reel foot both still appear straight and tight with no signs of warp or excessive wear. This is a vintage Scientific Anglers System Two model 89 fly reel. With spare spool. The reel is in excellent condition, and appears to have been used very little. Check the pictures for details on condition. The reel is 3 3/4 inches in diameter. Reel and spools were made in England in the early 1980s. At the time, they were a reasonable salmon and light saltwater reel, with a caliper drag system. Both the reel and spare spool are set up with about 170 yards of 30 pound test dacron with spliced loop ends(but no fly lines) The spare spool(see the last 3 pictures) appears to have had its rim, right at the handle, bent in slightly, and repaired leaving some plier marks on the rim. This is noticeable on close inspection and you can see these in the last 2 pictures. These England-made Scientific Anglers reels were very nice reels and will still ... morecatch fish.
