I am selling a Vintage Pflueger Medalist 1495 1/2 DA fly reel with 7 full spools. These are filled with various fly lines which I will note but admit I know nothing of how to identify line to be authenic. The reel works excellent and all spools are in good shape. The spools seem to be of different years because of the different markings on them. Everything here is in good shape and ready to use or display it that is the intention. The spools are marked WF4F- HDH DT55 1504- CORTLAND WF73- SALT 6BF F- OLD#12 SHOOTING HEAD- WF12 F- ONE NOT MARKED. This reel was built by Shorelines South an Orvis shop in Fort Lauderdale Florida and set-up for inshore salt water fishing in the keys.It has an upgraded solid aluminum spool that is black anodized and made in America.The reel also features a brass drag upgrade. And comes spooled with 250 yards of white#20 Dacron and a Cortland blue 444 WF 8I saltwater line.This reel was not used much 2-3 times and is missing one screw and has some paint chips on the center of the side plate. see pic)

Pflueger Medalist 1495 Fly Reel Very Early circa 1937 Ring Line Guide with Box!
Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE Early Pflueger Medalist 1495 Fly Reel Here is a very early Pflueger Medalist 1495 with original box dated Sept 1937( Instruction manual, and adjustable weight feature hang tag. According to several internet sources(google Pflueger Medalist history) the 1495 model was introduced in 1938. Very early models were stamped with both"patented" and"patent pending" as this reel is, so we know it is one of the first of the drag equipped Medalists. This reel also has the riveted painted brass foot, sculpted pillars, and round line guard. The only thing about this reel that doesn't match the early 1495 example on the internet is that the ratchet plate has four indents rather than two, although the original owner may have replaced the plate because he didn't like the clunky feel of ... morea two ratchet plate. I took a well cared for. Supple double tapered fly line off of this reel so it seems the former owner was discriminating. Also interesting that the instruction folder found in this 1495 box doesn't have the 1495 model listed inside. Reel shows finish wear. Mainly on the rims- please enlarge photos. In my view the best Medalist Fly Reels for use were produced in the 1950's. This one has the quality made parts I consider important: 1) hardened steel ratchet plate percision fit to the bronze ratchet bearing. 2) large stainless steel line guard plates and nickle plated brass line guard pillars 3) nickle plated brass line guard. Crossplate and pillar screws 4) chrome plated brass crossplate screwed then peened to pillars 5) 6 rivet spool with nickle silver(low knob) spool release cam and bronze spindle bushing 6) steel click pawl with bronze coil spring Newer reels were made with cheaper to produce parts: 1) plastic ratchet plates. Brass and then pressed metal ratchet bearings 2) riveted crossplate to pillars 3) stainless screws 4) plastic click pawl with steel coil spring 5) 3 rivet spool with either aluminum(earlier) or brass(later) ... morespindle bushings and plated brass spool release cam
