Ross CLA #4 Reel and Spare Spool
These are a black Ross CLA#4 reel and a CLA#4 spare spool. Both have 150 yards of backing on them. The reel and spool are in great shape- but I did find two very small scratches on the reel frame and one noticable ding on one spool. The reel underside of the pedistal has'XXX' scratched into it. Altogether they have been used on one trip to AK salmon fishing and one trip to BC steelhead fishing. They come with the Ross neoprene cases and boxes. There are no papers. I have read a lot of postings describing this reel as a go-to reel for steelhead and I believe it. The drag wasn't enough for chinook greater than 20 lbs. But it was fine with sockeye, chum and steelhead around 10 lbs.

Great. Well-proven, American-made fully machined, fully anodized fly reel by Ross for sale by original owner. I think that overstates the backing, though Ross may well use finer 20lb backing than do I. I have had little use of the reel: I had it rigged with a 6wt line, and cannot remember actually fishing my 6wt rod since I got this reel, though I must have. It does have some very slight edge wear that is difficult to see with the naked eye, but which can be, and has been, magnified in the fourth and fifth photos via a macro lens. Anything else you see is either lint, glare or reflections: the reel is pretty close to perfect cosmetically, and is essentially new, ... moremechanically. Ross CLA 1.5 reel, for 3wt, 4wt or 5wt lines. No reserve
Definitive American-made mid-arbor. Fully machined, fully anodized, reel. These reels are made in eight sizes 1-7, including model 1.5, and every one of them is saltwater capable. The 1.5 version is pretty versatile. I used mine primarily for a WF4F line, but also fished it with a WF5F line. It is rated by Ross for 100 yards of 20lb backing with the 4wt line. I'd say that depends on the brand of backing. I measured 80 yards of mixed 20lb and 30lb backing in segments connected by blood knots, and used the same backing with the WF5F. In other words, plenty of backing capacity. The reel is easily switched from right to left hand wind, with no tools or loose parts: one of the best systems ever devised for this purpose. The reels is smooth, with a terrific range from not-quite-free spool to a dead stop. There is no limit to the size of trout ... moreit can handle: the sole limit is the strength of your leader and knots. Indeed, the reel is well suited for ultralight saltwater work. The reel has a large drag knob which moves through detents to hold the preferred setting. I bought this reel brand new about two years ago and have fished it twice. It has always been on a back up rod. It is in great condition. The line is either SA or Rio and is like new. I don't want to split them up. I have the Ross neoprene pouch for reel.

Fly Reel Ross Reels CLA 5 w/ extra spool and two lines
I have a lightly used Ross Reels CLA5 with extra spool and two. One line is a scientific anglers Atlantic silver in 340 grain. The other is a Skagit setup by Airflo. I do not remember the grain. But it was used on a sage z-axis 6 weight spey rod if that helps determine the potential weight. There are some minor dings into the paint on the bottom of the reel from being in a drift boat, but the reel is in solid working order.

It has just been serviced by Ross Reels where they cleaned and replaced any defective, dirty, or lubricant fouled parts. OK: I admit it, I disregarded their warning and tried to lubricate the reel. It did not work out, so I had to send it in for service. When I got it back, I couldn"t believe how smooth and well the reel operated, and how strong the drag is. I now know better.
