Shakespeare President No. 1970 Model GE level wind casting reel in a nice leather reel case. Reel features handsome yellow marbled spacers between the side plates with matching handle knobs. Double handle, face plate mounted brake and back plate mounted clicker, and is fitted with a plastic spool arbor. Marked Stainless Steel on the face plate and marked with the reel name and the Shakespeare rod and fish logo on the back plate. The bottom of the foot is marked Made in U.S.A. Patented. Excellent condition as seen in the pics. Mechanically the reel has very smooth action and a strong click. The brake does not seem to be engaging. The leather reel case is in nice shape with a functioning snap. The only factory marking on the reel case is the number 3535 on the back end. A prior owner's name, G.A. One vintage fishing reel made by Shakespeare. USA. It is a"President No. 1970" model GD. It is Stainless Steel and has multi colored vintage braided fishing line still on the spool! It has been used for freshwater fishing, with minor scratches and rubs consistent with age. It is in pretty good condition and in working order with clicker operable. Here are 4 vintage Shakespeare Level Wind Casting Reels. They are all"President" model#1970. 3 of them are the same design and 1 is not. Most are in good shape but one is missing the crank handle. One has an odd knob on the crank and one has some cracks in the side plate. They all seem to operate the way they should and the clicker works on most of them.
