Vintage Sterling Raised Pillar Bakelite& SS Casting Fishing Reel This is an older raised pillar fishing reel. On top of the foot one end is marked"Sterling" and at the other end"Trade Mark" with a British pound sign in between the two words. The bottom of the foot is marked"150" The reel diameter not including the pillars is 2-3/8 inches. This reel was in decent condition when found. So we disassembled, clean& lubricated it and gave it a light hand polish. All internal parts were in good condition and feature heavy brass gears& bushings. There are two knobs on the SS side, one for click& casting and the other for drag adjustment. The brown side tests positive for bakelite, as does the white crank knob. WINCHESTER, TRADE MARK, MADE IN U.S.A, 2242" AND ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE ROD BRACKET IT'S STAMPED WITH A"60" WHICH I THINK MEANS IT HOLDS 60 YARDS OF LINE. IT'S NICKEL PLATED, AND THE HANDLE IS BAKELITE. THIS IS A VERY SMALL REEL, ALMOST TINY, EASILY FITTING IN THE PALM OF YOUR HAND. WITHOUT THE HANDLE, THE REEL ITSELF ONLY MEASURES 1 3/4 INCHES LONG x 1/3/4" IN DIAMETER, AND I WOULD ESTIMATE THAT IT'S AT LEAST HALF THE SIZE OF A NORMAL CASTING REEL. IN MY OPINION. Julius Vom Hofe Raised Pillar Casting Reel Here is a JVH raised pillar non level wind casting reel. The plates measure 1 3/4" in diameter. The reel is about 2 1/8" to the end of the pillars. And the pillars are 1 5/16" wide. The only marking is the number 206 with an underlined 0 on the bottom of the foot(probably a catalog number) but the reel has the characteristic small hole in the middle of the foot and the JVH drag washer on the tail plate. Reel is quite worn with brassing and a couple of chips to the hard rubber plates but it does appear to be complete with original parts. Please enlarge the photos. Cranks smoothly. The click is weak. Classic Nickel Plated Brass Raised Pillar Pennell Casting Reel 60 Yd. Fishing
An interesting reel. Pennell was a trademark of the Edw. K. Tryon company of Philadelphia. They had sporting goods made under their trademark by many manufacturers. This reel has a Pflueger foot. No Pennell markings on the head plate. The top of the foot is marked"THE PENNELL" on one side and"REGISTERED/PAT? on the other in the manner of Hendryx. The tail plate has both a friction drag slide button and an on/off click button. Both working well. The straight counterbalanced crank handle has a black bakelite knob. The bottom of the foot is stamped"60" Diameter of the reel is 1 3/4" width of spool 1 1/4" Overall condition is very good, could use a good cleaning.

The foot plate is stamped with a 40. The exact age is unknown but known vintage. Most likely the maker is MONTAGUE based ... moreon the shape of the foot plate. REEL CONDITION: The reel is listed as"NON-WORKING" This has a couple of replaced screws and a broken foot plate screw. The combination of the replaced screws and loose condition of the plates prevent it from working properly. The plates measure aprox. 1-9/16" wide. The pillars are 1" wide. The handle and spool do spin but not properly. This one should be taken apart and re-assembled and it should work. The spool brake does test as working. We believe the clicker works. Both plates have the general use hairline scratching as seen. Any plate loss is minimal and seen mostly on the click and brake buttons along with areas on the handle. The handle and handle knob are in nice condition as there is no serious damage found. General wear is noted. Soiling and any tarnish are minimal. Up for auction a rather Nice and somewhat Scarce 1905-1913 PFLUEGER NO.83 60-YARD RAISED PILLAR. FLUSH-HANDLED TROUT/CASTING REEL. This early single action reel was produced by Pflueger as a"trade" reel and would have been supplied to any number of retailers, wholesalers or jobbers across the country. It was identical to Pflueger's regular No.83 model, except unmarked. The only stamping is the"60" yardage mark under the foot. Comes equipped with raised pillars, strong tailplate-mounted clicker, narrow 1" spool and a flush-mounted counterbalanced handle with what looks like a hard rubber or composite grip. It spins freely and it dosnt appear to be coming off anytime soon. you can see it in the pics. Other than that this reel works as good as it looks. It spins freely. Early hendryx reel. This little beauty is made of brass and like many old reels it has raised pillars. This reel is clearly marked hendryx and 2 pat dates mar 21 1887. July 10 1888. Also it has the number 40 on the back off the reel seat. You can see all of this in the pictures.

This reel appears to be the same as the Winchester 2744 heavy fishing and trolling reel labelled under the old Hendryx name. It is in very good condition.
