Up for bids is a vintage Shakespeare Marhoff(Model 1964) baitcasting reel. This reel is marked with the Shakespeare date code"Model GE" Which dates this model to approximately 1946. The Marhoff is one of the best and most popular reels of this era. All functions work smoothly. There is an adjustable anti-backlash control on the right-hand side plate, and a"clicker" in the left-hand sideplate. The left-hand sideplate is engraved with the following information: Shakespeare Marhoff 1964 Nickel Silver Model GE Overall condition is very nice. There is some boat rash on the upper and lower edges of the right-hand side plate. The level wind guide is clean with no apparent grooving. This looks to be an early model Marhoff, as it does not have the marbled accent on the handle sideplate. Instead it has a green paint coating. Overall reel is in very good shape and does not have any pitting or rust. It does shows some prior use though, mainly some scrapes along left plate and some edgewear on the handle side. Also, the center crossbars have a couple of scratches as well. All are represented in photos and should still make a nice collector's reel. Operationally this one spins like a top, have just added oil to ensure that the gears and spool is well lubricated after all these years.
