Up for bid is one vintage SHAKESPEARE'IDEAL MODEL 26' Nickel-Silver casting reel with clicker. And drag control. This reel is in very good condition. It is equipped with a full time clicker, 4:1 geared multiplier, and drag control through a thumb wheel in the front Bakelite head ring, all in good working condition. It is equipped with jeweled bearing caps in good condition, and has 100 yards of line capacity of 18-lb. test line. On the front plate it is inscribed within their trade mark oval"MADE IN KALAMAZOO, U.S.A. Shakespeare. honor built. Honor sold. with their trade mark jumping fish, and on the rear plate with"IDEAL, LEVEL WINDING, NO. 1963" On the bottom of the foot it is inscribed with"MODEL 26. 100 YDS. PATENTED, MADE IN U.S.A. The handle has plastic or Celluloid ivory colored knobs. The front and rear ... moreplates have some small surface stains, see photos. This is a very nice little reel and would be a nice addition to a Shakespeare collection. Based on the fact that it does not have a two letter model, the reel dates back before 1929 when the letter code was adopted. It appears in a 1927 catalog(online) and was mentioned in a 1916 article. The model no. on the foot may refer to the date built. It measures 2-3/16" diameter. 3-7/8" deep including the handle, pillars are 1-23/32" long, and has a foot measuring 2-1/2" long by 9/16" wide. The reel is in very good working condition and appears very lightly used. It weighs 8.8 ounces, with packaging it will ship below 1 pound. Nice old Shakespeare Ideal 1963 Model 26 LW Casting Reel. Looks great. Works great! Some wear, see photos for complete cosmetic condition. Note that the photos I post are normally good quality and when zooming in you can see everything. Reels usually look better in person because the flaws arent exagerated. The tail plate on this reel looks allot better in person than in the photo. Anyways, black plastic head ring in good shape, not cracked. knobs spin freely. Strong head rim mounted dial clicker. Only flaw is a missing dust cap on drive side which does not affect performance(see photos) Side plates in good condition- very few scratches. Reel frame has almost zero corrosion. Old Vintage SHAKESPEARE IDEAL 1963 HED Reel 3 LETTER DATE CODE!! TOUGH! fishing
Tough old Shakespeare Ideal 1963 Model HED LW ABL Casting Reel. Recently serviced! Smooth spinner. Line guide travels with out a hitch, double coin jeweled end caps, strong click, strong under crank dial brake, gorgeous knobs turn freely. Marbled head ring spacer is free from cracks or chips but does suffer from"shrinkage" Shows some wear/scratches. See all photos for cosmetic condition. This reel has a three letter date code which is unusual. I'm not sure if the code signifies a change in manufacturing, a half year designation, or what. I know Shakespeare would add a letter after a model year, ie 1931A to signify a change. I cant explain the 3 letter date code on this reel. If you can explain, please message me. Anyways, neat reel! With shipping costs being high nowadays. I thought to assemble a lot of 4 reels that can ship in the USA for 9 bucks or less. So here we have 4 interesting reels as seen. All do function, a good cleaning and oiling will have them in even better shape. Or just leave that lovely patina and just display them. 2 vintage Shakespeare Reels,President 1970,Ideal 1990,run very smooth, Nice!
Up for auction are these two vintage Shakespeare fishing reels. A No.1970 President and a Ideal 1990. Both reels are in good physical condition with no dents, cracks, chips, corrosion or deep scratches. There are a few light surface scratches from handling. The President reel is missing the crank and the Ideal has a bad knob on the crank. These are easily remedied. Both reels run very smooth and all functions are working as they should.
