This comes with its original box and paperwork including the felt bag. This has bakelite accents on the handles and body. It has a nickel silver finish and can handle 100 yards of spooled line. The box boasts that its thumbless. Patents for this reel& the fact that there is so much baklite used in the reel production place its age around 1932 but I'm not sure. Size: Markings: 1922 Shakespeare De Luxe Model GE Nickel Silver Condition: This is relatively new and the casting action is tight; it seems to need a good oiling. The reel is shiny with minimal scratches. The box is in vintage condition as the pictures show. I make it a rule not disturb the original preservation of an item so I don't clean them up for the pictures. Why? I believe its up to the collector to use detergents that may damage the finish or disrupt the integrity of the material it is manufactured with. My brother has told me that collectors want to do this themselves and are their own experts with the items. Disclaimer: I am not an expert nor do I play one on TV. I'm just a guy doing a favor for my very uptight brother, I use an old Nikon to take the photos(which I readily admit I suck at) but I will try and give you the best visual scrutiny I can. When we look at condition we must take in account the age(period) of the item specific to the region of manufacturer, and what it was used for while compensating for the storage, display, and transport conditions of any item. Shakespeare 1922 DeLUXE WONDEREEL model GE This particular reel is in excellent working condition. The reel is Nickel Silver with a Gray marbled plastic spacer. Green& Black marbled knobs, and a thumb screw carriage quick release. It also is equipped with an adjustible front bearing cap that acts as a thumb brake. The reel comes inside a shop worn box. The front foot pin was broken, and was wired together when I received it. I removed the wire, and epoxied the foot for appearance sake. I do not know if the epoxy would hold for use or not. Vintage Shakespeare Wondereel 1920 Model GE level wind bait casting reel in two-piece box with paper instructions and wrench. Reel capacity is 100yds for 15 lb test. Or 50yds with arbor. Box shows normal wear at corners and edges. Portions of the label are peeling, seams are solid with no tears. Fold out paper instructions show some discoloration. The reel is very clean. Reel shows no visible wear, scratches or scuffs. Mechanically reel is very smooth. Fast, spins freely. This is an Excellent reel and box combination for the collector. Shakespeare 1920 Wondereel Model GE w/True Temper Metal SpeedLock Fishing Rod
Up for sale is a vintage rod and reel combo. A Shakespeare 1920 Wondereel Model GE coupled with a True Temper Steel Fishing Rod. The reel does turn and crank but does have some issues. When the level wind reaches the left side opposite the handle it does not return on its own. The handle is a little bent but does still turn so the reel will need some TLC if really thinking about using. This real has all original parts and nothing is missing on it. The steel rod is a True Temper Brand is 4 sided to its tapered point. It measures. 49.5 inches and has three eyelets. None of the eyes are missing and all three are original. The rod has a patent number of 1755159 which was filed in 1927 by the American Fork and Hoe Company which later became True Temper. The rod seat has the words"A True Temper Product Genova Ohio" which has a spring ... moreloaded thumb bar that pushes back to seat the reel. Also known as the"SpeedLock" The rod is a light to medium action and of course, has some rusting on the areas where the original finish has worn off. I tried the best I could with trying to get a photo of what was inscribed on the reel and rod. Nonetheless, both of these are from the 1920's and would make a great addition to that wall of fishing memorabilia. Priced to start at $32.99.
