Hendryx S Handle Casting Reel Here is a neat little Hendryx casting reel with a graceful"S" shaped handle and a rubber drag button on the handle side. Marked as a 40 yard reel. Plates measure about 2 inches wide and the pillars are 1 3/8 inches. Reel has light scratches and pitting but retains nearly all of it's bright nickel plating- looks better in the hand than my blown up photos. A tight. Well balanced reel that spins freely with a good click and functional drag button. Stamped on one side of the foot with"Hendryx" and Mar 21, 1878 and July 10, 1888 patent dates. This little vntage raised pillar reel is in very good condition. The Hendryx name on the top of the foot is worn but readable. But the patent dates on the other end of the foot are illegible. There is a strong on/off click button on the tail plate and a friction drag button on the head plate. The counterbalanced handle has a bakelite knob. Up for Auction is a Vintage Hendryx 40 yrd. Raised Piller Casting Reel From the early 1900's. The post that holds the main gear in place has come loose from where it was attached in the factory. Look at pics no. 4 and 5. This little reels still functions though. Handle turns spool, clicker works and spool brake, and still free spools. The loose parts seem to stay in place. Up for auction is an Antique Hendryx Brass Casting Reel I am not an expert on antique fishing reels. So the following is based on sight, a little research, and/or an auctioneer’s description. 2” diameter frame with a 2.63” foot. Solid brass construction and what looks to be the original cherry wood handle. The whole reel has nice patina, including the handle. It is marked Hendryx with a patent date of“Pat. This HENDRYX is a very nice reel-it is in great shape and the drag works fine and spins quite nicely on its own(one spin with the drag off and it goes around 5-10 times with one push) It is marked HENDRYX on reel plate seat and has 2 Pat. Dates on the other side of that plate. Patd Mar. 21, 1878 over Jul 10, 1880. The number 60 is on the bottom of that plate. Hendryx Casting Reel Large Size VG+ Condition No. 150 ?
Not sure of era. It may be Winchester era. Only Markings are Hendryx on one side and bottom of foot. Looks like 150(1 is hard to make out) Only notable flaw is one foot pillar has slight bend to it. See 3rd photo. I have not cleaned reel. Photo 6 shows small spot that I wiped, indicating this reel will clean up nicely. Screws are unmolested. Mechanically works fine. Would need new oil, grease. 2 1/2" wide outside plate to outside plate. Weighs about 1 pound. Seems to be a higher quality Hendryx, heavy brass and heavy nickel. Hard to date many of these Hendryx reels, as many models were produced unchanged for decades, but it's safe to say this example was built sometime around the turn-of-the-century(give or take a few years) The top of the foot is embossed"HENDRYX" on one side and carries the two"PAT.MAR.21.1876 and PAT.JUL.10.1888" patent dates on the opposite side. The internal spring steel part of the faceplate-mounted drag assembly is stamped"PAT. JAN.27.91" Built with a metal-bound hard rubber tailplate& hard rubber faceplate and comes equipped with a narrow 1-3/8" spool, strong tailplate-mounted clicker, equally strong drag switches, removable oil cap on the tail, ... morea sliding oil port cover on the face and a counterbalanced handle with a bone or ivory grasp. Making this reel quite unusual is the fact that it is equipped with TWO drag switches, one on each endplate and something I've never seen before on a Hendryx. Reel is in about Fine condition for these, showing only light to moderate wear. There are two visible surface hairlines on the tail plate. However, neither one of them goes all the way through the plate, so it remains a cosmetic issue only. The foot is boldly and clearly stamped. Displays beautifully and is easily the nicest-looking Hendryx I've handled. All functions work perfectly and the reel is very smooth-running. A very desirable, early double-multiplier from Hendryx. Hendryx, is stamped on the side plate of the reel(along with Made in USA) The reel has a 250 yard capacity and is stamped and underlined on the bottom of the seat that mounts the reel to the rod. This reel is Nickel finished steel construction. This reel was produced by Hendryx for Winchester Repeating Arms for sale in their Winchester Stores during the 1920's. In order to provide inventory for their stores and to provide merchandise at different price points from their top of the line Winchester brand tackle. WRA purchased hardware/tackle companies such as Armax, Crusader, Hendryx and Barney and Berry. Often times the items manufactured by these purchased companies were identical to the Winchester item but priced at different levels. Early 1800s Vintage HENDRYX Casting Reel - Narrow Spool - 2 Patents on Foot
Hendryx casting reel featuring nickel plated brass construction. A tiny counterbalanced handle with a tiny black grasp, and nicely knurled face plate mounted brake and back plate mounted clicker buttons. Reel is marked Hendryx on the top of the foot with two patent dates that appear to be Pat. Mar. 21'87- Pat. July 10'88. The numbers in the patent dates are a little hard to read. The bottom of the foot is marked with the number 60. The face plate diameter is about 2 1/8 inches and the spool is about 1 3/8 inches wide. Reel is in nice used condition as seen in the pics. Mechanically excellent with smooth action and a fully functioning brake and click. Be sure to check out my other auctions for more fishing stuff.

After Winchester bought Hendryx they underlined the yardage numbers on the bottom of the foot. This reel appears to be the same as the Winchester 2744 heavy fishing and trolling reel labelled under the old Hendryx name. It is in very good condition. Nickel plated brass, some discoloration and minor plating loss on the foot. The tail plate has a strong on/off click button and a friction drag button. The pole is manufactured by Richardson Chicago called"Champion" heavy duty breakdown pole with original canvas roll up- lovely brass end caps and bakelite or catalin eyelets- The pole is in excellent condition! 53" in length when put together. GERMAN SILVER HENDREX CASTING REEL ~ Hard Rubber Sliding Buttons ~ I am pleased to offer this high quality. Vintage Hendryx Baitcasting Reel made of German Silver with hard rubber sliding buttons. This exceptional Hendryx casting reel has solid German silver side-plates. Sliding oil caps, foot. Pillars and handle. The reel has brass screws, spool arbor, handle retaining nut and handle counterbalance. The bearing covers underneath the sliding oil caps are made of aluminum. The sculpted bells of the spool appear to be made of either aluminum or German silver. The two screws on the rear side-plate that attach the foot have been replaced. The reel has a fancy knurled rope border on the front and back plates as well as on both sliding oil caps. The reel's rear side-plate is stamped with seven patent dates. The top of the reel foot is stamped ... morewith two patent dates as well as the makers name HENDRYX. The bottom of the foot is stamped with the size- 80 The reel spins very nicely and when you slide the hard rubber rear mounted click button the the clicker is loud and strong. The front mounted hard rubber click button slides to activate a light drag.
