The vintage reel features a finely detailed fishing scene engraved into both side plates. The heavy duty stub caster is approximately 9-1/2" long and is attached to the reel. But it is removable. The caster has a brass tone finish and a forefinger rest designed like a trigger. The original cork gripper is covering the handle, but part of the cork is broken off at the end The reel looks to be in good working order. It has been used and could use a good cleaning. But overall, it is in very good condition. All parts are working as they should and move freely. The original grayish green bakelite knobs are both intact, and there is a half empty spool of old fishing line left in it, which needs to be removed. The attached rod handle has a lot of little dings over the frame. In addition to the broken end of the cork handle. The side plates of the reel feature matched engraved fishing scenes. The top right of the scene shows two fisherman sitting in a boat. The bottom left side of the scene shows"the big one" being pulled out of the water. A fishing line stretches between the fish's mouth and the end of the fisherman's pole. Joining the two figures in the scene together. The ornate engraving also includes trees standing in the background and lines etched to look like reflections in the water. Sea plants are engraved into the scene forming the top of the lake and the plants also serve as a border for the bottom edge of the reel. Vintage JC Higgins 100 Bait Casting Reel
This is a wonderful example of an early JC Higgins"100" bait casting reel. The model number is 537.28820. This reel is not new but is in remarkably good condition and works beautifully. Level wind and retrieve are very smooth. I have seen quite a few of these old reels but never one that had bright green handles. This reel really shines and aside from a small area of wear below the cross hatch engraving on the frame this is a great collector's piece or to put back into service.

Vintage JC Higgins Jet"62" Level Wind Casting Reel with original box and manual in very good aesthetic and working condition with minor wear to the handles of the reel. Box wear and crease folds to the manual. The handles composition are difficult to identify and almost appear to be porcelain over brass. But I can't say for sure and would rather not perform a scratch test to verify. The reel is in very good working condition and has the original nylon line still on it! There are great graphics on the sides of the reel. Fall fishing provides some of the best fishing. At least here in New England anyways! Very nice reel and the original packaging to boot! Nice item!
