The line guides on both wiggle just a little so might want to tighten them down for use, but really don't move much. They moved when I moved them with my fingers, not when reeling. Up for auction a nice and somewhat scarce(1927 Model) PFLUEGER NO.1893"AKRON" LEVEL-WIND CASTING REEL WITH THE ORIGINAL MAROON BOX& ORIGINAL 8-PAGE INSTRUCTION BOOKLET. This early model Akron. Which carries the four 1923-1927 Patent numbers, is considered to be the"third version" level-wind that was first offered by Pflueger in late 1927 or early 1928. These are becoming tough to find in the correct early package, in any condition. Faceplate is stamped with the"AKRON Trade Mark" logo near the top, while the tailplate carries the four Patents and"PATENTS PENDING" stamping. These earlier versions pre-dated models with an anti-backlash control switch, extra pawl housing or stamped model number. Comes equipped with strong clicker, smooth level-wind, tension control and dual pyralin grips. Reel is in ... moreabout Very Good to Fine condition, showing moderate overall wear and some brassing, especially to the spool and pillars. Although it has seen a lot of use, it actually looks much better than my sorry photos and still displays nicely. Works perfectly, running as smooth and quiet as any of the precision reels of the era. Put up in the scarce original maroon box, which is correct for the 1927 model. Box shows light to moderate wear, but is crisp and solid, with no damage or repairs. Carries a virtually complete front label with"Bulldog" logo and correctly marked for the reel. Also comes with the original 8-page instruction booklet, showing overall wear and a few small holes, but remaining in good condition. Rare vintage Pflueger casting reel Akron Model 1893
I have seen a lot of these fime Pflueger reels. But I haven't seen one as early or with the kind of engraving that this recently found reel has. There is engraving on the handle and on the body edge of the reel. The only thing it needs are to install two new/replacement handle covers as you can see from the pictures. There is great action on this reel and everything appears to be working very well. It's a nice old piece.

Minor wear, minimal brassing, some minor scratches in the chrome finish. Great addition to your collection. When this reel is cleaned it should look awesome. This reel does not need repaired or lubed. It works great as is. These reels are in great condition for their age. I think with a little cleaning and lube they would work like new. Up for auction is a recent estate find. This is a vintage Pflueger Akron Model 1893 made in the USA casting reel that has been used but is in excellent condition. There are a couple of scuffs and a little bit of rim rash from use but other than that it is as pictured( I tried to capture all angles in the pictures) The reel functions properly and is a nice clean reel to collect or use. There are 6 patent number listed on the side plate. The reel operates just fine. Take the clicker off and it rotates flawlessly, line guide works = nice old pre WWII collectible reel.
