This auction is for a rare and beautiful. Vintage, truly unused Pflueger Atlas Portage bait cast reel. Cosmetically the reel is like new inside and out and is extremely smooth. It is nickel plated. It has all of the original insignia. The number on the foot is 40 signifying the yardage capacity of the reel. The original repaired box(one piece of cardboard added to the back of the top) is included with all of the label information very legible and on the bottom portion of the box it has the date of purchase hand written by the original owner as April 10, 1911. Purchase price was $10.25 and with a ten percent discount total price of $9.00. Must have been a pretty expensive item back then. The side plate on the old fly reel is marked Atlas Portage, Trade Mark with a etched picture of a man caring a canoe on his back in the sun set. This old reel came out of an older tackle box and this it is a old reel but no sure of the age. The old reel foot is marked 40. The old reel handle is a counter balance type vintage reel handle and everything appears to be in good working order but have not fished it. Up for sale is one Portage Trademark Atlas Vintage/Retro baitcasting fishing reel. This was made in the USA and features an all metal construction with bacalite handle. I am unsure of the model number. But there is a#60 stamped on the back of the pole bracket, maybe this is the model number? This is a great looking reel very retro looking. Would look great mounted on a wall or displayed on a shelf. Has many years of good fishing left on it. Good condition, working, I did notice there is potentially a missing screw, but it does not seem to affect the functionality of the item. Vintage Portage Atlas Model 40 Fishing Reel
This vintage Portage Atlas Model 40 reel is in good used condition. It does shows wear and some plating is missing from one side as shown in the pic. The imprint of the logo is not very strong and I was not able to get a good pic of it. But it is of a man portaging a canoe with the sun setting in the background. Or rising if you prefer. Postage includes insurance and a tracking number. Absolutely no foreign sales.

This one was found at a garage sale and I wanted to pass it along to a collector. The vintage Atlas Portage reel is in 100% working order guaranteed. One of the stronger clickers on an old reel that I have sold. It has a# 40 on the reel seat and comes with a leather[ looks to be newer and not original] reel box/case. There is some loss of original finish to the reel but if properly cleaned[ I have not touched it] it should clean up pretty well but you be the judge on that call. VINTAGE COLLECTIBLE ATLAS PORTAGE "40" MINIATURE FISHING REEL GOOD
This is a collectible old fishing reel. Made quite small, I suppose to save weight as the name"PORTAGE" implies that it would be good for canoe travel when you have to pull the canoe out of the water and carry it over land for some distance.As you can tell by the photos it has been allowed to accumulate some corrosion and there are some scratches, very tiny dents here and there, but the knob is very good, not cracked and it spins and the bait click is very positive, does not slip between settings. The other little setting appears to be to add some tension to the spool, perhaps to delay the fish from pulling all the line from the spool in the instance you left to go cut some fire wood.This little thumb knob is also very positive and does not slip between settings.This reel would benefit from a good take-apart cleaning.The side with ... morethe handle says"PORTAGE" and there is a small likeness of a person carrying a canoe over their head with the sun on the horizon and it says"TRADEMARK" and"ATLAS" and"MADE IN USA" and on the foot is stamped"40" What a fun little collectible reel! it weighs just 4.2 ounces shipping is for first class USPS in the US.

It spins freely and it dosnt appear to be coming off anytime soon. you can see it in the pics. Other than that this reel works as good as it looks. It spins freely.
