Reel turns very smoothly and has a few spots of surface rust(see 12 photos) Clicker clicks, crank handles are original and solid with no chunks or chips missing, original box shows wear and some surface paper loss but is solid with no tears. Vintage J.C. Higgins Fresh Water Bait Casting Reel
This is a little beauty. It is roto engraved on both sides, the big A_ bass jumping for the bait and the other side is of a row boat fisherman. This thing is a little work of art. No one goes to the trouble of making a"worm" reel look this cool. I spent many the summer afternoon jerking sun fish and bluegills out of Lake Wysauking with this trusty old reel with 1950's lineage. I have left it original condition, you be the one to choose to buff it to a super luster and add another handle.or not, you're gonna love this thing.

This is a wonderful example of an early JC Higgins"100" bait casting reel. The model number is 537.28820. This reel is not new but is in remarkably good condition and works beautifully. Level wind and retrieve are very smooth. I have seen quite a few of these old reels but never one that had bright green handles. This reel really shines and aside from a small area of wear below the cross hatch engraving on the frame this is a great collector's piece or to put back into service.

Sears wanted to make a line of outdoor products and they liked the name of one of their managers.J. Higgins.he worked for the company from 1898-1930. Sears kept the name J.C. Higgins until 1961. I do not know much about the reel, but I had more fun looking up the history of the name of the reel.the reel itself moves well when you move the winder, however the winder handles have seen better days. Also, there are a few nicks as well.but again, we are talking over 50+ years! I would think it would be a nice addition to a pole or just on a shelf.

J.C. HIGGINS CASTING REEL NO. 312-3107. MODEL# 487. MADE IN U.S.A. Bronson Reel Company of Bronson Michigan Made most of the reels that were labeled as J.C.Higgins and sold exclusively by Sears& Roebuck Co. Bronson made reels for Sears from 1940 until 1961 when they dropped the J.C.Higgins trade name and replaced it with Ted Williams. The Bronson made 312.3107 with the engraved fishing scene on the side plates is the same reel as the 312.9200 just a different number. Both reels were made in the 40's. Very nice J.C. Higgins bait casting fishing reel with some minor corrosion from age and use. May be stainless construction because of condition. Gray and white bakelite single handle. Tension adjuster in great shape and foot is fine with almost no corrosion. Original line is still strong. Not powdery. Drop line not included.
